A Marshall MF350 has a pretty insubstantial, "digitalised" tone anyway, what with being a four channel modelling amp. A POD certainly won't help matters either way.

I've played it many times, and played in a band with a co- guitarist who gigged one for a number of years. The heavy sounds simply do not cut through live (or when recorded, now that I think about it), and the clean is totally dull and muffled, especially compared to any number equivalent (n.b. valve) amps of a similar price.
I'm not having a go at you personally mate, so you don't need to be so defensive; I'm just telling you the way it is, based on my experience with this and other comparable amps. And I like to think I know a fair amount about hardcore/ punk/ particularly metal guitar tone, so you can't just explain the mode four's shortcomings away based on it being "not your style". I still am aware of what is, and what is not, a good amplifier for any style of music/ guitar sound. I have to. |

A guitar head with KT-88s? i can imagine it would run pretty with a pretty nice clean, but how did it drive? Unless you've got a fairly high plate voltage KT-88's tend to take alot to distort dont they?

As an addition to my previous post, the original 60's JTM45 was a 5881 based amplifier, and is my favourite marshall amplifier. |

Bluesbreakers are pretty nice like (same thing as the JTM45 right?)
Ive never tried JJ KT77s in the SVT, they are EL34 drop-ins so i dont think they'd handle the extra power, seeing they'd be being run at about twice what they are meant to be. I was quite tempted to try some KT90s (Ei or EH), apparently they "should" sound pretty good, but they are too tall, and i like keeping the top plate on my SVT ! |
