right, does anyone know the proper names for the two techiques used to do doubles on a bass drum?
i've seen both methods called heel toe but i only use my toes so its not really heel toe at all. so i'm a bit confused as to what i'm playing... |

id say double strokes, i use my toes for doubles on both feet and when combined i can pull of double stroke rolls and various rudiments that incorporate doubles with it. Theres probably no name to describe the actual technique seen as theres no trick to learning it so its probably just the correct way to do it, not sure though...

thats what i thought. but i can do double strokes by just hitting the pedal really fast twice or i roll my toes and the balls of my toes to get the sound that you get on NOFX records etc. doing this on both feet make me sound like tim waterson but slower.
cheers, i'm pretty sure that by some pure chance i have picked up the correct technique on my own but its well confusing when your doing something cool and you dont know exactly what your doing. |

i learned hand and foot technique by myself from instructional videos (really old ones). i reckon that having lessons would regress my playing but i have been thinking about it... |

heel toe technique isnt that hard, im a size 11 and have standard pedals. Basically i was fuckin about with the jazz hi hat technique (also heel toe) and if you move it onto the bass pedal with a bit of work you can do it.
Totally pointless if you can do it anyway but meh, ive never properly tried to bring it up to speed.... Try the moeller technique on your feet, get it up to speed, then take out the middle tap and your set or try accent the second note at slower tempos and bring it up to speed so that you have much stronger and smoother doubles at high speeds, kens it Iain, you seem like you know a lot about drums, add me on msn, iwilldiebeforeikneel and we can talk shop, kurgen too! |
