i got a question...
i bought myself a yamaha fretless, loving the sound and the freedom but i seem to be struggling for a perfect tuning. it seems that i am better off playing on the fret marks- is that the way it should be?

well, yes, the fret marks are where the fret wire is on a normal bass, so between 2 frets is going to be between the 2 notes, if you think about it . . .
The frets on a normal bass are basically cut of points, shortening the length of string that vibrates, each of these is for a specific note, so as there are no frets on a fretless you need to press down where the fret wire would be in order to make the string the same length as if it were being played on a fretted, thus giving the right note (just thought id add that para to clear things up) Last edited by I_got_a_mohawk : 31st March 2005 at 04:51 PM. |

Just a quick question on strings, do any of you know if a 6 string set of Elites will fit a 35" scale bass, there doesnt seem to be such a thing as extra long ones, any other brands prefered, something with a bit of bite, but preferably nickle wound/coated

Hey folk. I'm looking for some advice. I had a go on my mates bass and his bass had way more ring to the notes than mine did. I've pissed about with the bridge etc but i don't know. Strings???? I use Ernie Ball custom guage at the moment. Anybody know whjat to do to get that ring?

Dont mess about with the bridge, thats just you throwing out the intonation, your probably using nickle wound strings, and he'll be using steels, probably, if its accoustically more harmonic, rings more . . . then that could be it, or it could be he has newer strings and your strings are dead

Thanx but i tried stealing it but he sorta noticed.
Thanx man. It's probably both cuz these strings have been on for a while too and they're not sounding too hot. |

about my mates bass i was on about, it's a 24-fret and mine is a 22-fret, would that make any difference to the ring i want? Also... Wanting a new bass amp. 100W or so looking to spend around £250 on it. Any ideas? got my eye on one but can't remember the name. |
