I find that flat wounds give you a more "plunky" tone. If you want something with a bit more "twang" try a brighter string. Maybe stainless steels (Dean Markley Blue Steels). Those are really bright stings and punchy. They also last a bit longer. My favorite for a nice glassy top end would be a set of Ernieball Hybrid Slinky's. Nice snap and not too harsh. They do however die pretty quick. I don't bother with the boiling but the handwashing and wipe down helps. Once strings are dead they're dead. Chuck'm
