I use Propellerhead Reason 2.5 but its pretty complex stuff .
I tried a program a wee while back called making waves - they do a free trial i think and it's brill for drum beats and sampling

ableton live.
www.ableton.com
the most tactile piece of music software i've ever used. go for it. but if you use it to make funky house or trance i'll hunt you down and make you eat your parents.

software

EMAGIC LOGIC 5.5 FOR PC OR 6 AND ABOUVE FOR MAC

It is awsum comes with great soft synths works with vst plugins and has exs24 sampler for drums and let me tell you it is amazing

It is so user freindly just like a giant 4 track

Check it out you will need a second hand copy of logic 5.5 as apple computer bought emagic over and from logic 6 it is only available on mac hence why i am buying a mac plus the fact macs are much better than pc's.. you know it dont deny it and dont post rrubbish comment s about macs i wont rise to it ....

enjoy

i'm kinda sick of the argument these days. they'll both do the job very well. yes, i am a pc user, i'll stay that way for the time being. logic will run far better on a mac. ableton and steinberg stuff (i think) gets better performance on pcs. there's bits of software that are nice that you can only get on one or t'other (dp4, supercollider for mac, audiomulch for pc).

macs do have an advantage at the mo in coreaudio/coremidi, good low latency audio built into the core of the OS.

but then pcs do get a whole load more bang for yer buck. (and pc laptops kick the arse off the current powerbooks.)

and people often cite the stability issue. i've had more bad experiences with macs than pcs. but then i know people who've had the opposite experience.

so basically, i'm not saying either is better. i just hate the whole argument. and the 'you know i'm right, don't ever argue' is, may i add, arrogant in the extreme. please do not try to stifle intelligent debate with your mightier-than-thou comments.

there, i didn't say macs were shit tho, eh?

i use nuendo, logic & reason.
im going to be stopping using logic tho.
I find Nuendo far superior for audio recording/mixing, where as i used to prefer the midi stuff (and logic VST's) with logic.
I especially liked the ESX24 and EVP for logic, but I just got reason and im learning how to use that. The NNXT sounds like a beast and the sound banks i have are as good, if not better than the logic stuff. once thats on the go, that will take the place of logic for the midi stuff, and it runs with nuendo really well.

hence why i'm suggesting ableton as opposed to logic, cubase, nuendo etc. it's really easy yet very powerful. there's a great help system (a box at the bottom right tells you what everything is as you move yr mouse over it. you can get rid of the box once you know what yr doing). it also has great tutorials to get you started. i'd seriously recommend it.
