You're right dude it does vary ... only slightly though... you can pretty much get it how you want by knowing your own sound !!, i find that what i'm looking for outta the PA is usually easy as hell to get.... and i've never heard anyone complain about my live vox yet when i've done the sound....

the only bad thing is... i can never get them right on recordings myself, but a good engineer allways nails it for me

Since MrLizard actually engineers for a living, and is currently on tour doing live sound, im going to trust his judgement over a guy with a cheap Vocal PA.

it vary's alot more that you think, i'm on tour doing sound for a band at the moment, if i had stuck with the same eq settings on every desk i used it wouldn't have sounded the same, every PA and room are totally different. If you tried the eq settings you suggested on a decent quality desk you would know what i mean.

I've found, in sound control anyway, if i just come right out and say "i know fuck all about this" they've been really helpful. Maybe you've been trying to sound like you know what you're talking about when you don't. Just a theory, not a dig at you.
oh yeah, cheers to everyone who's contributed something helpful to this thread, but i've found that smoking a fat bag of crack before practice gets the desired vocal effect much better than anything electronic. nah, cheers, some good advice in here in amongst the bickering.

hmmmn....

i'm not arguing with ya that i know better or fuck all so i'm glad you didn't take offence,

i was merely stating the fact that what i do works for me

but *point noted though*.... i'll make sure that i leave it to the soundguy when we tour
