Good common sense and manners too if you ask me. As i don't own a bass amp i always rely on a shot of a bass amp at each gig. As these gigs and equipment have been pre-arranged and equipment sorted i dont know who to thank personally otherwise i would.
There has been the odd time when a string has went on me and as i can't even afford a G string on my bass (don't use it anyways...but really should) i never have spares with me so a bassist has lent me his and i can't thank him enough, to the point of asking are you sure ten times as he puts it in my hand. I'll always appreciated that and know if the same thing happens to anyone there, my bass is theirs for the show.

Safe bet for touring punk/hardcore bands though as they might be vegan.

Support band etiquette:

Defer to the HEADLINING band. I've been to a few gigs where the local support has droned on for ages (getting boring in the process) and has resulted in the headliners set getting cut short. This is not on. Especially in the case of touring headliners who may have travelled miles to get to the gig.

If you are supporting and have brought a lot of mates along with you, hang about for the headliners unless there is a SERIOUSLY good reason not to (Transport home, your dog/spouse/child is ill). If you don't like the headliners why would you want to support them? It sucks when everyone goes away leaving only a few people watching the last band.

aye but a lot of that isn't down to people leaving because they want to.
it's more because they have to, for busses etc.
i know that's the case with me and a good few others from "out of the way" places like forfar and monifieth/carnoustie/arbroath/montrose.
although most of the aforementioned are underage anyway.
i try to stay at shows till the last moment possible.

As I said, if transport is a reason, fair enough. But it isn't always.

i often wonder how a headlining band feels when they travel the length and breadth of the country to a packed gig, only to have the crowd bugger off after their first song. i saw this on friday and felt so embarassed for the band.

if it was me i would of packed up and went home, but im a stroppy bastard though.

If a promoter has been decent enough to offer you a gig DO NOT turn up, complain about the fact that the venue isnt as cool as you would have liked. Sometimes promoters are limited in what venues they can use and its generally not their fault that a) your sound isnt the best and b) youve had to plug instruments through the PA as your band or the other bands neglected to bring any equipment.

Yes the promoter should help organise equipment but ive always found it best to email the bands were playing with to find out who has what and who can bring what.

I disagree - i think its totally up to the bands to provide equipment. The most i would expect from the promoter is a list of contact details for the other bands so i could contact them regarding backline. If i couldnt get in touch with anyone about it, i sure as hell wouldnt turn up with nothing.

I was at the doghouse the other night (not to actually see the band, but to visit a friend who was promoting), and those "stupid little dirty wee teenage minky cunts" or whatever the band is called were late going on stage becasue they had to borrow guitar leads. Thats a fucking disgrace.
