when we'r playing i'll always check what i need to brign adn what will already be there that we'r allowed to use. but on the other hand when im putting gigs on i will always initially plan to bring all required gear and if a band wants to bring something for general use then great, one less thing to clutter up the stage! as for venues, that is a fuckin pisser! a gig is a gig and especially bands from out of town who havent played a venue before then they can at least give it a try! lending guitars isnt a probelm if its for a good reason. if someone just doesnt bring one then they can fuck off - YOU CANNAE BE GIGGIN IF YOU DONT HAVE A GUITAR SORTED! |

Yeah. I would only loan one of my basses out to someone i knew and trusted.
Also as Clogs said you gotta treat folks gear with respect. Ask to change setting etc etc. Ive seen some pretty shocking cases of people climbing on amps that are not their mid set etc. Fair play theres going nuts on stage but you gotta make sure folks gear isnt going to get broken. If someone borrows my amp and climbs or allows a band mate to climb on top of it i wont wait till the end of their set to start punching their teeth down their throat. |

Dude, seriously, calm down. If they made a habit out of it then yeah its a pisser, but if a band doesnt have everything they need there is occasionaly a good reason.
Myself, i like to take a backup of everything i can;guitar, leads, picks etc and i cant really understand why smeone would forget any important gear, but i accept we are all fuckin human n' people make mistakes once in a while. Nay need to lay down the insults in musicians corner if you dont like a particular band hombre. |

Feeding my band would be a pain in the ass. 2 vegans, a (lapsed?) vegan/vegetarian, 2 unfussy meat eaters and me, the picky bugger. I do like chips. Feed us chips, as long as they were cooked in vegetable fat. Forgetting to bring a guitar lead is daft. Until recently i didn't have a giggable amp and we didn't have a decent drum kit, so i've always really appreciated it when someone lends me one. As there's six of us, taking all our gear to out of town gigs would be a logistical nightmare. I've lost my train of thought. Oh well. |

Also, its got nothing to do with the band - i have never seen or heard the band, but its this whole teenage rebelion "Punk" thing. So punk rock they dont even have a guitar lead. Fuck off. the most important thing should be making sure you have the right stuff so you can play a show to the best of your abilities, not worrying about what colour hair dye you should use etc... Music 1st. Ego/Gimmick 2nd. I know that those rules dont always apply to famous punk rockers in the past - but if you insist on pretending to be fucked - ask a friend of the band to check your shit before you down your bottle of JD. |

My gig bag is stuffed with things; screwdriver, battery, polish, cloths, spare strings and wirecutter, string cleaner, leads ets (rather like a woman's handbag!!) but those damn pens always seem to disappear when I need them! |

I know myself that if a band turns up and asks me for a len of a lead i'll give them it. you want some real gig etiquette, it's about helping each other out and supporting each other, we're all on the same fucking side here. it's also about pitching in. I was fucking greatful when mitch lend me and Gally the leads and i made damn sure i handed them right back to him. |

Wind your neck in guys and stop overreacting, this is a good thread no need to bring it into personal ad hominem sniping now is there?
I don't think it needs much thought to realise that the ettiquette guidelines above can be blurred by discussion between individuals and the neccesity of the situation. But I think Clogs hits it on the head when he says that you should never put someone in a situation where they are compelled to say yes, and as a band member with many people looking at you, there is the potential for many of these situations. Taking advantage of that fact is just plain rude. I agree, it can happen, but those scenarios should be rare, and avoided at all costs. You should certainly exercise some humility when they do, instead of spitting vitriol in the direction of someone... Can someone post the link to the promoters guide? I would love to see something like this from the perspective of the venue too. |
