Bass Geekery

Thought id show this off, I got a cheapy bass a earlier this year with the intention of hot-rodding the components a bit, i finally got round to it, so i now have a cheap bass that sounds pretty damned good

Just felt like showing it off really, twas my first time playing with a soldering iron too, only 3 burns

It is a bit OTT on switchs, but, hey, it was fun

Its a set of DiMarzio Model P & Model J pickups in there.

Anyone else got any fancy extra bitties they've added to thier guitars/basses? Go on, get em out

will! two forums too show this off!? I like how you didnt go into the in-depth info on series/parallel and phase inversion in this one. I'm gonna be producing control plates with similair features soon for jazz basses ( http://njwinstruments.cabspace.com ) - click on the 'Products' bit.

Shh, its the only thing of interest ive done in years

A blue LED, now, theres an idea . . . only problem with that is it would need a battery

Sounds like a cool idea, one thing tho, just curious as to why your haveing the volume control for each pickup and a master volume? it makes sense, but ive never seen anyone do it before

the idea is that the master volume will be one which clicks at full. This means you can control volume and tone for each pickup (I prefer this to a blend pot) and the master volume means you can control both at once - for example, you like the sound of neck set at 70% and bridge at 100%... but you want to do a fade up from silence whilst playing live. Usually the only way to do this is to fade up one pickup, unless you have fancy hands that can operate two pots at once.

And yeah, the blue LEDs will be running from 1220 lithium cell will wont take up much room in the control cavity at all.

It is a really good idea, i dont use a fade in or anything, but i really like the thought behind it, im not a big blend fan either, and, fair play on the batteries, sounds pretty good, if i ever get a J bass, i may give you a call

will, my question to you is this...

how do you enjoy the sound of the phase switch? do you think it'll ever be truly useful or is it just a bit fun? I'm contemplating NOT using one of the control plate and going for a variable value capacitor switch instead.

It might be useable for some, i dont think its as worth while a change as the series/parallel switchs, maybe if its a jazz player or something they might want it.

You should give people the choice
