ive heard afew of that series, there ace sounding. in my opinion if your gonna buy cymbols go that wee bit further and get "ufips" or "istanbul", simply beacuse they are hand made while zildjian, sabian and other simiar makes are manufactured basicly although they would say different.
but i have sabian cause i aint loaded, lol |

Pete got it in one! Go for UFIP! If it is bell-sound you are after then get a UFIP Bionic Series Ride and you'll be on your way, they cost that bit extra but if you read Rhythm Magazine Readers Ads section you'll see someone every so often trying to get a sale on their own for around £100 inc. p+p which is a bargain. UFIP are hand-hammered like the Sabian "Hand-Hammered" Series and the Paiste "Rude" Series. This means that they have been individually fine-tuned to perfection and you ain't getting a last on the pile piece of crap that has been half-manufactured and will crack 3 weeks down the line.
Be careful with the likes of Zildjian and Sabian. They are both fairly reliable but the big manufacturers have "Extra's" ploys to keep you interested. For instance, Z Custom Mega Bell Rides are a cop-out, you don't need a bigger bell for a better, louder sound. It is a trick of the eye and of the mind - don't buy into it. Z Custom Rides themselves are great but UFIP bells are the best of the best. As concerns Z Custom in general, I use a 16" Crash which is excellent. They have a great crisp sound and from 17" onwards they actually make good Ride cymbals at certain points depending on what tuning your band play in! Good Luck with finding what you are after - just be careful with where your money goes and be sure what you are buying is what you are looking for. The sound bites on the Zildjian and Sabian websites are helpful, if those are who you want to go for. My personal favourites though are probably Paiste! |

I dunno why but zildjian always appealed to me plus i know places where they have the whole range pretty much and i can get them pretty cheap. What drummers use ufip (besides the white skull one) and where can i get an indication of the price?

Fuck paying almost £300 for a ride, i reckon i'll go with the Z customs, i can get them for £170 roughly. When my band is signed to drive thru records and i can afford to i'll get ufip ![]() |

my drummer plays a sabian range which sound good but arent exactly outstanding... HOWEVER, he found a gem in a rare hand hammered sabian chinese...
He loves it, and as a non-drummer, i also think its the most amazing sounding sheet of precision designed metal ive ever heard...

Unless you have been drumming for a very long time you'll find it hard to tell the difference between a top of the range sabian and a top of the range ufip (better) I would stil find it hard to tell the difference between a lower quality and higher quality zildjian

You can get a set of zxt ones for about £200 but theyre not so good. Now i have the dilemma of whether to save up for a new snare or a new ride cymbal and whether i should spend my pay this week on new skins, sticks and things or whether i should save it up for my next invesment. Its oh so confusing

believe me u can tell the differance with a cheap zildjian and a dear one. or even a zildjian to a ufip! different sound, some prefer the zildjian for the brightness, but i love the istanbull for the brightness and depth!
