Lessons
Who takes lessons, where, and do you think it's worth the money ?
I have bass lessons every wednesday down at Stage which costs me £10 a week, and I've been going for well over a year now. I'm thinking of dropping it soon and switching to guitar lessons, because I'm really just learning songs now instead of techniques so don't think it's really helping my anymore. What about the rest of you ? |

ive never had a guitar lesson in my life. I just taught myself from a book, I also got help and tips from guitarist mates along the way. I think its better in a way as you can develop your own style without pressure

i learnt from nothing with the help of websites n stuff at first... then after about a year of playing basic stuff i began to play bass in last years fall with an amazing guitarist. 2 years of playing bass along to him has improved my guitar playing 500%...

i learned guitar the same way. being inventive is something you cant teach. |

I got bass lessons when i was at school and it did help me slightly but i wasn't really interested cos i wasn't getting to play stuff i wanted to so after that i just got tabs off the net and pretty much taught myself, which probably explains why i'm still shit, hehe. I'm thinking about getting sining lessons though so i can learn how to use my voice to it's fullest potential cos i'm sure that with some help i could be far better than i am now and would be able to hold notes more easily.

I really wanna start getting guitar lessons again cos I've got stuck in a bit of a rut where i just play the same old shit over and over again. My friend Rob (not ayearbehind) goes to John Curran and has been going for a while and is actually one the best guitarists i know, and he's only been playing for 2 and a bit years! So i'm thinking of maybe trying to get a slot with him.
I've been thinking a lot about getting proper bass lessons because so far I've just really taught myself from knowing the notes on a guitar, which explains why i'm baws! And of course you get more session work as a bass player because there are sooooo many guitarists, and this is something I would really like to look into. I've already been asked by a couple of producers in Glasgow to do some sessions for funk and dance stuff, so i better get good..quick! I also get drum lessons at school from a local percussion instructor called Iain Robertson. He does like five of the schools in Dundee and is seriously awesome at every instrument...ever! His lessons are totally brilliant because he really opens your eyes to lots of new music. I wouldnt have heard have or be listening to half the bands i know if he hadnt have told me about them! Man, i talk shit [edit] oh yeah, just remembered. I've been advised to stay away from stage for bass lessons, it's just really hard to find a bass teacher in Dundee. There's not very many apparently |

I got lessons from when I was about 11-15. I remember not really practising a lot of what I was meant to, my guitar teacher was a nice man, but he liked a lot of stuff which i've grown to hate (van halen, pointless bluesy noodling).
I'm not too bad now though |
