Kurt Cobain
Was he really the voice of a generation or is he over rated ?
Personally he's one of my biggest influences and I don't think I'd be where I am today without having listened to his music. |

totally fucking overrated, but I have to admit to doing the whole nirvana covers thing. I have, however, been refusing to play "smells like teen spirit" since I was like 13 years old. it's just... awful. some of the other stuff was fun to play though

If you want to see a junkie who cant sing or play guitar then go to edinburgh around this time of year. If you want to see a dead one, take him to glasgow and leave him there overnight

He was tralented as fuck, he had a shit hot voice and was one of the best songwriters ever. He was also the best performer and he had passion and stood up for what he believed in.
To those of you who slag him off - you will never be half the man Kurt was so just go and cry in a corner. |

I haven't listened to Nirvana in a good long time, and I am unlikely to do so anytime soon. However, back in my late teens, I loved Nirvana, through them I got into The Melvins, who I love to this day.
Also, as a kid trying to learn guitar when Iron Madien and Metallica seemed impossible, I could at least strum barre chords along with a Nirvana tune and feel like I was getting somewhere. -Wally. |

i personaly think that Nirvana is a band for 12-16 year olds, you dont often see people listening to them much afterwards. also i think that nirvana are some sort of gateway band... people tend to start listening to them find more music in the "rock" scene and move on into their late teens (depending when they started listening to nirvana).
As for Kurt he is pretty much over-rated.. i mean he won best guitarist of the year in many magazines for about 3 years running... a head of people like satch and hendrix, sure lets put satch boogie and smells like teen spirit up together and see which one wins for best guitar preformance. Another thing about 'teen spirit, wasnt it a rip of a pixies song anyway |

Come on, Nirvana were great! They are probably overrated but most big bands were- in the same way that perhaps Hendrix is overrated because his demise was in the same vein. Jesus, i'm going to get killed by someone for saying that

Nirvana were a tad over-rated. At the same time so were the Sex Pistols in their day. What both bands did was capture the mainstream's imagination, and open up willing ears to different sounds.
I wouldn't have heard of The Melvins of The Jesus lizard if it weren't for those guys. |
