ANOTHER vocal thread
Here's a question for all you metal vocalists...
although I don't think I'm a metal vocalist, I wanna roughen my voice up a bit...it sounds too nicey nicey... hitting notes isn't a problem, but it sounds too...nice. I've tried belting it out when practicing, but all it does is make my throat ache for ages... any help? |

breathing helps but you gotta know you limits, sometimes your throat cant take it and your going to end up doing some permanent damage to your throat. i aint a metal singer, but i do scream in NE... and i play in a sorta metal band as well |

I had a kinda hetfield type style when i started singing and have since then deepened it quite alot. Try to emulate someone within the vocal range that you want to achieve and fuckin' go for it. I started to sing early Machine Head songs mixed with some Pantera, Sepultura and even Cannibal Corpse and mixed it all together and over time found my voice.
The only real tips i can give is sing alot louder (the louder you sing the deeper and more aggresive your voice will become) And make sure it comes straight from the gut (try to do it from the throat and it just won't work ripping your throat to bits in the process) If you don't naturally have a deep voice it will be hard to sing with one but yeah dude give it a go. The world needs more fuckin' Metal \m/ Last edited by JOHN kondemned : 27th August 2003 at 01:13 AM. |

Gotta agree with Pete. Stop worrying about whatyou hear, and start worrying about what you feel. If you have something worth screaming about you won't even have to think about it. Until the end of the set, heh..

it's hard to explain
i don't want a metal voice - it's not metal music, i just want my voice to sound rougher, cause it sounds too smooth... i just thought i'd ask you metal vocalists cause you guys have like really rough voices...maybe it's a natural thing, I dunno. I just don't want people to think I sound daniel bedingfield or something stupid like that. i've tried smoking lots, and that doesn't help either hehe |
