Redneck Renegade's Uniquely Recorded Single out 24 September
In the loneliness of a 6ft room on an oil rig somewhere in the North Sea, resident Aberdonian Gary Ross (AKA Rednekc Renegade) has spent the past two years honing his songs and ideas in isolation.
Like so many aritsts out there, the internet and more particularly Myspace has given Gary an outlet for his work that a few years before might have stayed in his head and on the rig. After putting up a few rough recordings up on the site, he was stumbled upon by Yorkshire musician and enthusiast Darren Haley. Haley, who was in the process of starting his own label and management company sent some stuff out to people he knew in London. His contacts at companies like Colaition Management showed enthusiasm and helped introduce Darren to musicians that might help bring Redneck Renegade to life. Haley introduced an old friend, Mike Heaton, erstwhile drummer with Embrace to the project and he quickly assumed an integral role as drummer producer for Redneck. Next to follow was Tom Goodwin, a Macunian guitarist / producer who many people have expected big things for some time now. With the band in place, introductions were made via e-mail in December 2006. Recording was to start the following month. Geographical restrictions made the recording process more unique and unorthodox. Without having met, these musicians were throwing ideas from Aberdeen to Manchester and Leeds and back via e-mail and mp3 before the final pieces were put together and the current recordings finished in May 2007. The band were first to meet each other at a pre-arranged rehearsal in Leeds. The success of the rehearsal has prrompted a further rehearsal schedule, which is soon to climax with the first live performance. Geographical boundries ignored, modern technology embraced, traditional rock and roll enhanced. The future looks exciting yet unwritten for Redneck Renegade. Their debut single for Fat Northerner Records, “Running Out”, is an indie disco anthem in waiting. It’s oasis-esque chorus was made for booze fuelled 2am sing-alongs, but the track is also laced with the sort of warped psychedelia that was the stock in trade of such 80s cult heroes as the Psychedelic Furs and the Teardrop Explodes. With something to offer those on both sides of the alt-rock divide, this outstanding single looks set to be the start of a journey into the big league for Redneck Renegade.
