goNorth 2008, Dundee, 5-6 June

Press Release: 04/03/008 - goNorth: Call for submissions

Bands and solo artists wanting to appear at this years goNorth event have just three weeks left to register on line. The deadline for submissions is 29/03/08. There are two ways to register: either visit the goNORTH website at goNORTH 2008 - Music Industry Showcase in Dundee, Scotland June 2008 and register for free, or register at the Sonicbids website goNorth 2008 - Sonicbids. Though there will be a small charge for following the Sonicbids route, they will be sponsoring a stage this year - and all 8 performance slots will be reserved for Sonicbids artists.

The acclaimed music industry showcase and convention is coming to Dundee in 2008, taking place in venues across the city on June 5 & 6. As well as live performances by over 60 bands, the event brings high level representatives from the creative and digital industries to a packed programme of seminars, workshops and panels.

In addition, a film programme at the DCA will celebrate music and the movies - kicking off with the WORLD PREMIERE of 'The View - Live at the Caird Hall'.

Background Info

goNorth is a festival for contemporary and cutting edge music of all genres. It aims to highlight the best emerging talent from Scotland and some of the best new contenders from the rest of the UK and further afield. Launched in 2001 so acts from Northern Scotland and the Highlands & Islands could showcase in front of music industry and media representatives, on their own patch, the event also features seminars and Q&A sessions aimed at helping emerging artists, managers and labels. Since then, goNorth has become the largest newcomer festival in Scotland, with over 60 bands performing over two nights in 2008.

goNorth features acts from all contemporary music genres, with the line-up split equally between artists from the Highlands, other parts of Scotland and the rest of the world. In recent years bands from the USA, Scandinavia, The Netherlands and the Basque Country have performed. Selected artists are compensated with a small payment for their performance. Moreover, the event boasts strong links with a number of international partners including Music Export Norway, Moving on Music Northern Ireland with which it jointly hosts an event at Manchester's In The City. Since 2004 goNorth has featured dedicated showcases hosted by several labels and publications including: The Fence Collective, Is This Music? and Planet Boo.

I had a look at the website and will probably send in our band details sometime over the next few days.

On the registration form, after it asks you to upload photo and upload MP3s it then asks you to upload 'Stage Plan'. What the hell is a stage plan?? And why is it mandatory??

it's where you put a plan view of what kind of set- up your band performs in, where you stand, where your amps go, where the kit goes, that kind of thing. I agree it's pretty stupid and extraneous to be asking people for that with their initial application though.

just MS Paint some boxes and circles and put text on them; simple.
