final fantasy 3 for DS.

is it just me or does leveling up take far longer on this FF compared to the others?

I dunno about it taking longer, but there's definitely something that seems a bit off.

My random battles appear to be a piece of piss, most of the time resulting in me winning without all my guys even getting a turn. However I had a bit o trouble with some of the bosses in the same zone - which meant I had to go level up in a place that had boringly easy battles.

It doesn't help that so far the game has been a bit stingy with phoenix downs (which apparently can't be bought anywhere), i'm not sure tents have even been invented AND resting at an inn doesn't revive KO'd characters.

I'm not that far into it yet (I keep dying) - but it's been kinda boring me. I don't think it's got any flaws in particular - it's just that because they've remained so true to the original format of the game it's a little too retro to make a decent RPG by today's standards. The playability and storylines of games have become so much more refined and complex, that playing one from many years ago is quite painful with so many gaps that modern games fill up automatically.

It's the only game I'm playing on the DS just now though, so my opinion of it may change very soon, it may be that I'm passing judgement a little early.
