I wouldn't say that the Wii is a gimmick, it's just an alternative control method.

You only need to look at the difference in popularity and demographics attracted, between normal joypads, and other alternative control methods like Eye Toy, or Guitar Hero, to see that there are a lot of people out there that would play games, but are put off because controllers give them the fear.

could you not then maybe argue that Nintendo are taking a risk in alienating their there old demographic?

I wouldn't have thought so. In my experience, Nintendo's demographic tend to be the people that rave about how innovative Nintendo are, even when it's something that someone else has done before.

That and they generally seem to be doing a good job of attracting both the gaming nerds, and people who hardly ever play games. This can only be a good thing.

plus, the wiimote is still a joypad and can easily be used to play older style Nintendo games.

Panic over!

HMV delivered our Wii the other day. I'm glad I didn't have to resort to camping outside toys are us or paying over the odds for a bundled system.

Thanks for your shopping advice.

Ritchie.
