that biffy lyric someone quoted was fucking awful, and that heroin lyric bumperbrew quoted was Benton Falls, and yes, completely terrible.
I think Cobains lyrics were pretty stinking sometimes. A mullato, an albino, a mosquito, my libido springs to mind. and also, the lyrics to Debaser by the Pixies really get on my chabs also. "I am une chienne andalusia" etc, rubbish. giving a vague description of some shitty French arthouse film does NOT a good lyric make. the Weakerthans write the best lyrics in my eyes, they're always cheery, warm, and just a little bit cynical. I also like "the universe is shaped exactly like the earth, if you go straight and long enough you'll end up where you were" by Modest Mouse. incredibly simple, but the sentence flows along so well. Gift of Gab from Blackalicious writes intelligent, well formed hip hop verses. and I like the lyric "I just want the world to know, you've got me at an all time low, but I wrote the song that broke your fucking heart" by American Nightmare, although a lot of their lyrics are shit. and also "wear your makeup like a weapon" but I can't remember who penned that. |

i really like this song by the shins:
"Know Your Onion!" Shut out, pimpled and angry. I quietly tied all my guts into knots. Gave up on trying to make them, I figured it'd take them too long to look up and besides... It was undeniably clear to me i don't know why When every other part of life seemed locked behind shutters I knew what worthless dregs we've always been. Lucked out and found my favorite records Lying in wait at the birmingham mall. The songs that i heard, The occasional book Were the only fun i ever took. And i got on with making myself. The trick is just making yourself. But when they're parking their cars on your chest You've still got a view of the summer sky To make it hurt twice when your restless body Caves to its whims And suddenly struggles to take flight... Three thousand miles north east I left all my friends at the morning bus stop shaking their heads. "what kind of life you dream of? you're allergic to love." Yes i know but i must say in my own defense It's been undeniably dear to me, i don't know why When every other part of life seemed locked behind shutters I knew the worthless dregs we are, The selfless, loving saints we are, The melting, sliding dice we've always been. and Malcolm Middleton is a great great lyricist as well. |

For instance, the words to 'Invaild letter dept' by ATD-I kinda bother me. Not what they mean, just there are far too many big word in there for my liking. I'd rather an artist made something beautiful using a few simple sayings or something. I think non-sensical works as well. Carol: I will die in your Rosary. |

Confessions Of A Futon-Revolutionist
Held like water in you shaking hands are all the small defeats a day demands. 10-6 or 9-5 trying, dying to survive. Never knowing what survival means. Leave the apartment to buy alcohol. Hang our diplomas on the bathroom wall. Pick at the plaster chipped away, survey some stunning tooth decay, enlist the cat in the impending class-war. Let's lay our bad day down here, dear and make-believe we're strong, or hum some protest song. Like maybe "We Shall Overcome Someday." Overcome the stupid things we say. Say I needed more than this, say I needed one more kiss. We left that light on way too long now. Let's plant a bomb at city-hall and kill an MLA. We'll talk the night away. You call in sick, I'll quit the word-games that I play. I swear I way more than half believe it when I say that somewhere love and justice shine. Cynicism falls asleep. Tyranny talks to itself. Sappy slogans all come true. We forget to feed our fear. |

'my heart bleeds cold
i refuse to be caressed by a stone' from my heart bleeds the darkest blood by shai hulud, the song is ace but the lyrics are awful I think good clean fun write some awesome lyrics, heres an example: 'Last Night I dreamt an emo kid loved me' Jen, she really rocks my world, I think she is the perfect girl, But she never seems to notice me she doesn't care about my positivity, I try to take her by the hand, reminded her that I too am in a band, But she doesn't seem to understand, or care about the things I've planned, At times it seems that I've been cursed, My love life couldn't get much worse, But I'll keep hoping anyway, I love Jen but Jen loves Saves the Day, I fell asleep with the radio on, it was playing Queen, Freddy must have spoken to me, I had the strongest dream, We turned our backs on all we knew and loved, and left the core behind, For greener grass and thrift-store clothes and finally Jen was mine, Won't compromise what I believe, 'cause I can see, Won't change my life to make a friend, 'cause that's not me, I won't be bitter, I won't be mad, that's not how I am, I've got to live my life for me, I understand, I can be posi alone. Also American Nightmare but i cant be bothered typing them |

"And they could not love you, But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight on that starry, starry night. You took your life as lovers often do. But I could have told you Vincent. This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you." |

Freakin brilliant. Just about anything Jeff Buckley even had a hand in writing goes on my best ever lyrics category. Ya, sometimes it could be a little overwrought, but somehow he pulled it off. There's only ever been two songs that can bring me to tears, and one of them was Last Goodbye by him. Gorgeous. |

After the Gold Rush, or really every Neil Young song has gd lyrics tho ![]() |
