Bloc Party - Intimacy

New Bloc Party album available to download from their website today. Fiver for the MP3s, £8 the CD (out in October with additional tracks) or a tenner for both. Guess what fanboy went for...anyone else indulge?

Just given it a first listen and not too sure what to make of it. No obvious anthems yet, though "Ion Square" sounds good, bit of a cross between "Flux" and "I Still Remember". "Mercury", the single, not exactly representative of the whole thing. I have to admit i find the mastering a bit crap, everything seems a bit compressed. Maybe the CD will be better, but i doubt it - the last album suffered from the same problem, i felt.

So, aye, Bloc party eh. Maybe album 4 will be their OK Computer...

Ok, i'm on what i think is my fourth time round with this now and it's really growing on me. "Biko" and "Signs" are both particularly lovely. It's not an all out electronic record but it is more so than their previous ones.

I have gotta say that the single sounds like someone just bought ableton five minutes ago and wants to show their mum the new "song" they made.

Yeah, it's a bit sloppy, but has a charm of a sort. There's better stuff on the album.
