Metallica - Death Magnetic
I just finished downloading this album about an hour or so ago and im in two minds about it. While it's good to hear metallica playing songs somewhat reminiscent of their 'Justice for all' days, some of the songs feel contrived. My main complaint with this album is that they have "80s metallica" riffs in the same songs as cowboy vocals straight out of load/reload and it just sounds shit.
I just wondered if anybody else heard it and if you have, what do you think about it? |

I watched the new video they've made, The Day That Never Comes, and thought the song sounded like they'd sat and worked out how to take the bits from old songs folk liked most and put them all into one.
also, they'r saying how the video is made by Thomas Vinterberg and "our goal with this song was to step outside of the usual every day music video box and into to the world of film" and that "you are as blown away by Thomas' vision as we are". The video is problably the most pointless and boring miltary based video ever made, total gash. Metallica.com Last edited by Hometown Zero : 5th September 2008 at 11:01 AM. |

I'm probably not even going to bother seeking it out.
Metallica haven't done anything worth listening to since the black album, and they're just trying to play the "no we've stopped being shit, this new one just like the old stuff, honest!" card, repeatedly. Most rock/metal bands have only a finite number of good albums in them. Once a band starts cashing in and turning shit, they very rarely come back. The fact that they've made an Unforgiven III just shows how much they've turned into a parody of themselves. I love the fact that "so when do you think Metallica turned shit?" is a standard conversation you can have with pretty much any metal fan over the age of 25. Sad though, they were the first band I really liked, and the band that got me into metal in the first place. Last edited by humndislocation : 5th September 2008 at 11:41 AM. |

The "fast" sections seem only be put there because even they got bored with plaing the slooowwwww borning riffs. I saw an interview where they said they approached this albumn as if they were trying to get signed, I doubt they'd get signed off this drivel, honestly some the tunes sound like Nikleback throw away tunes. There are some moments in the tunes I've heard where you thing "ah here we go!!" but then the moment passes and w're back to some dreadfully generic riffage. As with Brian, they were one of the first metal bands that i got into that my dad didn't already own but I am no fanboy and I will not be buying or downloading this album. I'd rather give my cash to some artists who are starting out. |

I just heard 'The Day That Never Comes' and... fuck me... it's DREADFUL. Metallica by numbers, but played badly. As is expected from Ulrich, the drums are often out of time and sections slow down and speed up depending on whether he's good enough to play the fill properly or not.
Genuinely rubbish.

In an interview with the Guardian today, in response to a question about how long Metallica can keep going for, Lars said they'd stop when they became a "joke".
He can't have seen "Some Kind Of Monster", then. |

From what ive heard i completley agree with this. Everything just seems wrong if you know what i mean, the songs ive heard are dull and the fast/heavy/thrashy bits just dont sound quite right. Even the good metallica albums dont seem all that good any more. My favourite album is And Justice For All....but while theres definite high points, every song is just so drawn out. |

this could of been the greatest album they had ever made, it wouldnt have mattered, it still would have been slated.
the songs are really unimaginative and drone on for 8 minutes a piece. at least they actually bothered with solos this time. |
