aye aye 4 reel. WESTIE 24TH OCT -Point of Origin I had never seen PoO before as they usually entertain the punters in Aberdeen.I arrived about two songs into their set.The first thing i noticed is that they certainly looked the part of a young band of punks, but looks can be decieving,so i waited for about 2/3 songs to let them prove they actually were worthy of being up there. What i heard were simple quick fire bursts of catchy pop punk that went straight into your skull. Some lingered longer than others, some blew away like a fart in the wind. But what they lacked in riffs they made up for with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. And i think that counts for a lot.Theres nothing worse than watching a band putting no efforts into their songs.PoO were fun, entertaining and pretty freaking solid. The motionless Dundee crowd didnt really do them any favours either, but im sure if they come back they could stirr it up a bit.Overall i`d say job well done. 4.173920476154651684621233546513321651111133215645 22023429 outta 5
-Skarsoles This was the second time i have seen the Skarsoles in the Westie and they have added a keyboard player to their ranks since i last saw them."this ought to be interesting" was the general mood in the room. And so they begin, with a fuckin awfull opener, sorry boys but the keyboard sounded all wrong. They dropped the keyboard for the second song and it sounded an entire universe better, quality ska riffage and lyrics,it flows along really nicely. There was one song i remembered from the last time i saw them, the charmingly titled "lovely vagina" and as expected it reared its lovely clit again tonight, and there was much rejoicing. They used the same jokes they used last time they were here but it was a different crowd tonight so they worked pretty well again. They were connecting well with the crowd on all fronts, apart from the keyboard!. Overall, very animated, very ska,not big,not clever, but lots and lots of fun. 4.645687651321684651320321684623654684561654213203 513203331320 outta 5
-Misled youth this was the 4th or 5th time i`d seen MY.They have added a sax player and additonal gutarist since last time.Opened with "boy meets world" and it sounded great.A lot chunkier and tighter than before, the sax definately works. Songs blast past quickly without sounding samey, even though i`ve heard them before they are sounding better each time and the boys seem to be havin some fun. Now, i dont know the name of the song im talking about but its the one with all the "woah oh oh`s!" and i think it kicks a bit of arse, totally simple and totally quality. They manage to rustle up a few dancers but its the same old story for Dundee, not enough movement up front!. Still it dosent take the shine of the music.Ace 4.894676651231657654621321626462198465165461546271 9759756219 outta 5
-Quik More Aberdeen boys, venturing out of the granite for the first time. They begin with a quality Blink182 esque opener, and follow it with a another, and another, and another!. Yes they are punk, and yes they are good, very good at what they do and it dosent seem to matter that it`s all very similar because the songs are very strong, true to form of their skate punk style. It`s clear that Quik are having a lot of fun,big smiles all round and the mood is carried on through their upbeat catchy punk rock. They have every right to be happy. "Conversation Killer" stuck out a mile for me as the tune of the night.Just a pity Blair`s mom didnt get up and slam dance.lol. Some people left early but those who stayed saw a damn fine set. 4.796857463525465786857464758697687265242424253645 756898697 outta 5
