it - Inverted Inertia CD

Its been a while comming, but at last, a review of Gateshead band, `it`. `it` are one of the better alternative rock bands that we have had send their demo. Blending chilled guitar instrumentals and vocals with energetic bass and chorus, its not too hard to see why they have been getting the kinda reviews they have been...

Track listing:
Prelude to a Kiss
Teardrops / in the eyes of the last man on Earth
Broken Glass
Light
Dark
The first track, Prelude to a Kiss, brings the CD to a blinding start. The second longest on the CD, it starts off pretty relaxed, leading to a strong chorus and finalle. With the smooth and relaxing drum beats in the back, the Marks vocals are clear to the ear. If there was one thing I didnt like about this track was the shouting 2/3rds of the way through. It kinda ruined the feeling that the track, as a whole, gave to me as it went through.

The second track, Teardrops, follows along the same lines as the first track. Not too much to pick at here.

Broken Glass... for some reason, the instrumental at the start reminded me of a David Bowie song from the Labyrinth movie. Im not too keen on this. Why? Because its raw and uncut, rather like broken glass and so, fits the name. But as I type this, it kinda starts to grow on me a little. The chorus feels a little miss placed and ill delivered, but the track as a whole is, well, impressive. To be able to make a track that is meant to sound broken, and pull it off so that it sounds the way it is meant to sound is a feat in its self. Definately one of the better on the EP.

Light is, in my opinion, one of the better tracks that stands out from the rest in that it combines the heaviness of rock with the alternative vocals. I hope they dont mind me saying, but at times the vocals remind me of Jarvis Cocker. The problem with the track though is the way its made. The technical aspects of this track are not really impressive compared to the other 4 tracks. I may be wrong, but at times the track begins to sound a little benign and boring. Sorry guys.

Finally, Dark. ooooh, now this sounds more like it. Up tempo, just what i like. it sound like a totally different band on this, i dont know if it was done after their previous tracks, but you can tell the difference here, except for the transition on the 1 minute 5 second mark. Its completely misplaced and ill timed. But the track, overall, makes up for it. Im well pleased that this is the longest track on the CD as it is without a doubt the best out of the 5. Altogether an `almost` well put together track. Definately one to bookmark.

If you are on the internet, you cant get the tracks downloaded from their site in mp3 format, as i said before, their Dark track is the best and is a must have. But check all of them out none the less.

Their website is at www.itmusiconline.com and you can also catch Dav on the Kerrang forums most times of the day.

Peace, KJ
