Review by Gav Revolt
A fairly interesting and eventful night was had here, im still unsure as to how to take all the different events but i personally spent most of the night embarrassed and wishing i wasnt there, preferably id have been at home or up in Aberdeen watching Tear Jerk, however i was promoting this gig so i was kind of stuck.
Both Kaddish & Ill Funk were marvellous, and myself and Shaun were well chuffed with the sets they played despite being continously hassled to keep to time with their sets from the headliners & their crew.
Kaddishs material is sounding stronger everytime i see them, i think this is mostly from having greater confidence with what they are playing, and i always find a live show more enjoyable when the band move about so much, just shows you how much the band are into it. Im just so sorry that the stage times ended up in such a mess meaning they played to about 5 people.
Ill Funks set was a lot different to the ones im used to seeing. Most of it comprised of newer material, and not a single song off of the Bohemian Rap CD!! (shock) I do remember one song that they have played the last 3 times ive seen them that had a good bit of double bass drumming, was disappointed not to hear that one as its prolly my favourite. We were also really relieved that most folk had arrived by the time Ill Funk were on.
Five Knuckle were possibly the most impressive band of the night. Quite a few folk who had seen them previously didnt think too much of them, but they had changed their minds and it was easy to see why. They manage to cram in around 9-10 songs in just under 30 minutes, and their sound can be described as a harsher take on the ska-core style (in comparison to the likes of Capdown), although id defintaley say they lean more towards hardcore than anything else.
To top it off Five Knuckle were very nice blokes who appreciated that we had bothered to get food and beer for them, something they werent used to the other times theyd played dundee. Really glad that Paul was able to put them up for the night too, i would have but my girlfriend would have killed me then kicked them out.
And so to TTN, having managed to pull a bigger crowd tonight than they had managed in Aberdeen the previous night (28-30 compared to our 55-58) most people fucked off and never bothered to watch them having gone downstairs after Five Knuckle and possibly passing on the daunting task of getting back upstairs. Their set was of mostly new material that most people had little chance of hearing before, even off of their latest released album. With nothing pre-50,000 Watts.... aired at all and now having watched the video of the gig back again there was nothing too memorable about their set worth mentioning any further, other than new guitarist Kris/Chris (a rather nice bloke) who nearly managed to hang from the rafters by his legs and play his guitar whilst upside-down, but he sadly failed as the last chords of the set played out.....Oh yeah, and their set was only 35mins long with pauses to talk to the crowd, this was after hassling the local bands to keep tight to their set times, including Kaddish having to make do with only 25mins.
All in all, the gig was finished at 10.48pm (TTN having failed to play up to their self alloted 11pm finish time) and everyone else fucked off straight away, save for G who was rather pished downstairs

Shaun paid them their money and i stood around feeling utterly crap.
i was very glad to get home to my bed....im now really jealous that KJ got to ride in Grossis car for so long

when i have money ill get the pictures developed from the night too.
