Eyehategod @ King Tuts Wah Wah Hut (Glasgow) with Labrat, My War & Co-Exist
Review by Gav Revolt
3rd time getting to see co-exist in the space of a week and a half, i really must apologise to my ears as they have taken one hell of a beating in the process. no destruction of drumkit action tonight however but just a set of mostly new stuff inc Bred For Violence, We Are Damaged & Snapped. Paul really is a great frontman with one hell of a voice on him. Punishing stuff.
Up next were My War, having heard nothing of them before i was very pleased to find they were a sludge band! woohoo! However, they did leave me feeling really sick, i mean physially sick just from the sheer heaviness of their sound. It was like my bowels had turned to liquid for 25 minutes, completely horrid and thoroughly enjoyable.
I was really keen to hear Labrat, mainly because since their album was released their vocalist left to concentrate on his family, and was replaced by ex-Tangaroa screamer (and yes he does scream A LOT) Farrel, and joining him Martin Ives (Terrorizer ads editor). The two vocalists have the biggest contrasting styles you can possibly imagine, Farrel really does just let rip all the time, and makes it look so easy as well. In contrast Martin has possibly the lowest voice ive heard (id read this was the case previously, glad to find it true). To get an idea of just how low his voice is, check out the Madman Is Absolute tracks on mp3.com, one of the tracks has a roar at the start, once youve heard that roar, youll know exactly how this guy sounds ALL THE TIME!!
Musically, Labrat are rather clever. Time changes a plenty, highly inventive riffs. I wouldnt really know how to pigeonhole this band properly but id give it a bash at being along the lines of spazz-grind. I still dont know whether i really like the band or not though, i havent listened to the album enough to get properly into it, but its a pretty good representation of the band as it is now (barring the new vocal styles).

Ever waited about 7 years to see a band? I got Take As Needed For Pain when i was only 15, thought it was rather marvellous and all my mates thought of it was "theyre nothing special". WRONG! WRONG! WRONG!
Despite only 3 out of 5 proper band members making it over, they still played an amazing set with material from Take As Needed For Pain (woohoo! they played Sister Fucker!!!), Dopesick (im fairly sure) & Confederacy Of Ruined Lives (stand out being Revelation/Revolution). Only gripe i could have was that the set was all too short at only 40 minutes and that we possibly didnt get the full experience, seeing as their other guitarist is currently on tour in the states with one of his other bands (namely Down). Some remarked that it didnt sound quite as fucked up as they expected, this is possibly due to Bowers abscence.
