PMX, Today's Lesson, Veda, 13 Broken Fingers and 62nd Tryout.
PMX, Today's Lesson, Veda, 13 Broken Fingers and 62nd Tryout. Curly Lloyds, Perth 19th Sept 2002
Another night of anticipation in Perth and i couldnt believe there was a crowd of people WAITING to get into the venue, something rare indeed for local music.
First up on the stage was Veda. I honestly cant remember much about these guys so i hope someone else can add something to this review. They seemed ok, and i didnt have any bad comments to make about them, or none that i can remember. The two wind instruments (cant remember what they were) was a good touch and they had some variety with their music, which is something that every band should have. I would write more, but i dont know what else to write :|
Today's Lesson were up next and from the crowd reaction, they seemed to have put together a winning formula for the night. Good fun music was to be had. By now the venue was getting busier and the music was getting better.
13 Broken Fingers were my favourite band on the night. They played some politically charged heavy punk music and the sound guys did a great job with the effects on the vocals. I for one enjoyed it, the heavier the better. Something different here. It was the first time i had seen this band, and the two before hand.
62nd Tryout were on next and, unfortunately, they'll prolly need a few more tryouts before they impress me as much as the previous bands. They were good at what they did, but it was nothing new. In my opinion, when bands are coming out, they need something to distinguish themselves from every other band of similar nature going. But no doubt, they will probably improve with more feedback and more experience. This was also the first time i had seen these guys. Infact, i had not seen any of these bands before the night.
PMX, apparently the best unsigned act in Scotland, were up next. Very tight music, good vocals and energy in their music. However, there set was kinda samey all the way through. A little more variation in their style would have really impressed me.
I wasnt planning on giving a review for tonight, and i think there is one other review in the works for the same night, so, if you have any more comments or feedback, please give it, the more views on tonights gig, the better. And remember, this is just my opinion.
Todays Lesson, 13 Broken Fingers and PMX were my bands of the night.
KJ.
