Drouthy Neebors, Dundee. Venue Review
Review by Avid Gig Goer
Hmm, an unusual venue this. Unusual in that its band area is the wierdest i have seen for a while. You enter the venue and upon entering, the place looks...

it used to be better.. before all those seats and that partition thing next to the stage. They should get rid of that..
There were some class gigs there- it's a great venue for hardcore. I've had Ensign, Stampin Ground, Unite etc there.. was pretty good. I got offered American Nightmare and the Misfits for in there too.. imagine.. |

I like playing in Drouthies. Ok, the sound isn't always great, but as the bands are setting up themselves that's there own responsibility. With a bit of care, attention and luck things should be okay.
I like the fact that the place is small. It's fairly easy to get the place looking busy with 30 or so people. That many people in the new Westie would look awful. |

I have a love/hate relationship with Drouthies in that I think it is an awful venue, it's far to small and there's no room to dance.
It's obviously a bar that figured they had an empty corner and could make a bit of cash from holding gigs. But I love it because some of my favourite gigs ever have been there. Mountain Men Anonymous played an absolutely fantastic set there and Findo Gask were amazing that night as well. |

I cant say i like drouthies, playing or watching, its just not my thing, Every time we've played there something has gone wrong, that good just be chance, or it could be the Drouthie Curse, (It exists, belive me).
Watching on the other hand isn't fun and games either, surounded, to the point of claustrophobia, the air is dense and humid (coming from a heavy smoker too.). and i just think the place sucks in general. This is my personal opinion though. |

technically speaking it should be a shite venue, but I fucking love it. It's my favourite place to play in Dundee (barring Dexters). I don't know what it is... and yeah, there is a Drouthies curse, seriously.
But get some decent amps and everything is fine. I've never had any problems with the equipment or the atmosphere. Even when it's empty I still enjoy playing there. |
