Fletcher, Route215, PMX + Misled Youth, Westie 14th Oct

Review by Baz

After reading quite a few bits and pieces about 2nites 2 headlining bands saying they are among the best in a new breed of British punk i thot i shud pop along and see what all the fuss is about, more about the fuss later.........

Misled Youth, now theres a name that always bring a smile to my face, good buch of lads who always play a good buch of songs. 2nite, they shone. Set packed with new songs sounded very fresh and very full. Kev expertly corrected a fuck up by having a spazz attack like he meant it. ace!.

The 1st half hour of PMX`s set was really, really good. And then, the drummer turned up and they went onstage Strangely, they played the longest set of the nite(40ish mins by my count) textbook stuff all the way but, we`ve all read the textbook b4 and are longing for the next few chapters. i want to like PMX more than i do because they are good guys but everytime i see them i can never remember any of the songs by the time the sets over, they just aint memorable. i know im the minority by saying this because they always pull a crowd and go down really well (",) and im sure they will for a while yet.

Route215 inform us that their guitarist left them last week. 2nite he is replaced with a 12 year old boy who plays in Skirtbox (apparantely). After a few songs its obvious why the guitarist left in the 1st place, he just listened to them one day and said "this band are fucking shite, c ya!" Route215 are shit like. You all know the score - chirpy, upbeat occasionally humourous songs (about tattooing your knob and how girls keep leaving you coz u are a fucking loser, b00-h00) its the kinda stuff that got u noticed 5 years ago and now its just the same chords over again with new words and a different girls name for the title. Fuck off. Gimme summit new. Im hoping Fletcher can do that...

But they cant, they are marginally better than Route215 but its still the same old story. They try really hard, a bit too hard, to evoke some reaction from the crowd but its simple. If u aint got the songs, we aint gonna dance. We`ve all seen bands that got Dundee dancin (Busdrivers, Shootin Goon, Stampin ground, etc) why u ask? coz they had the songs. these guys are just shit.

If this is the best of our "new breed" of punk, or shud i say new breed of "signed" punk then im about to write a strongly worded letter to those responsible tellin them to wake up and smell the maple nut crunch. The best 2 bands opened the show tonight and it must`ve hurt for them to watch the "signed" boys do their stuff, even more so to go up to them after and say "yeah man, really enjoyed it, u guys were shit hot" I know how u feel boys, we are all in the same boat............. P.s - the 3 stars represent 1 each for Misled Youth, PMX and the boy Firm
