Godplayer - The Shape of Things To Come

Review by Gav Revolt

This cd is the debut demo by a band consisting of ex-members of Confusion Corporation, Co-Exist & 3daysfallen and Darryl. Featured here are their first six recorded tracks which run as follows.

01. Inhale the Lie
02. Never Again
03. Bite the Kerb
04. The Only Solution
05. Plague of Man
06. Gone

The style of play on the songs are all fairly straightforward. A violent meshing of metalcore, hi-speed death riffs & blastings and some melodic, said elsewhere, "emo" leanings. For the most part though the pace is kept with the foot to the floor, featuring some of the jaggiest riffs i've heard. These are particularly evident on 4th track The Only Solution where the song is stop start all the way through, not exactly the easiest sounding style to take on for playing. All songs feature some rather smart beatdowns, again track 4 is worthy to note as it has these in abundance. That is not to say the other 5 tracks come up short in that department.

The final two tracks are Godplayers most widely known tracks, this is due to their success on mp3.com. Since being featured they have received around 19,000 plays taking them to the top of the metalcore charts and attracting attention from music fans in Malaysia and other such far flung places.

Both of these songs are fantastic in their own rights. Gone is of particular note as it can almost be described as an epic, and has been used by fighter pilots on bombing runs (sounds unlikely, but also very much true). Starting off at a high pace, it slowly breaks down to show the more gentle side of the band, and gradually fades out.

Anyone with a liking for Cryptopsy, Kataklysm, Devolved and early Fear Factory, and any other such high speed blasting bands, would be a fool not to check this band out!

Godplayer @ mp3.com
