Cafe Project Gig, Arbroath 23/01/2003

Soundshok
a punk band whose name i forget :|
Cartel
Tearjerk
SLaphappy
Allergo
Segaboy
I arrived at the gig late, this being the first time i have ever made it to gig in Arbroath, there was one time i attempted to, but got lost getting there. I walked into the venue with a slight concern, especially since there was a Jehova's Witness hall next door, i didnt quite know what to expect. I got through the door, up the stair case and into the main hall.... what the heck? it was like a scene out of some bizarre alternative horror movie. Alternative kids of all ages, midget tossing in the middle and the performing bands on the stage at the front. No matter where i looked, midgets were being tossed from side to side. Amazing. The people behind the gig did an amazing job getting such a response from the local gig going community. The place was packed. So, having missed the first three bands, i arrive at the start of TearJerk's set. It has to be said that they didnt quite play their best tonight, and i was dissapointed over all with their showing. It could just be them getting used to the lineup with their new drummer, but i dont think it'll take long for them to be back to full strength like they were toward the end of 2002. They played a set full of old and new material and it seemed they played with a heavier edge than usual. There was one worrying moment when Baz the singer nose dived of the stage, but he recovered well to finish. Slaphappy were on next. From what i heard they were quite good. I cant really comment on them too much because i missed most of their set, but i heard the boys dun good. Its good to say Davey boy back in action. They recieved a good response from the crowd too, which is always nice. Allergo were up next, allbeit with crocked Tom who managed to play the set sat on a chair with his leg raised in the air. What a show off. Takes some balls though, but was executed perfectly to round of my night, seen as i had to leave early. Their set was full of energy and the usual screams. I thought they were great and always have whenever i see em. Good work from em. I missed the last band because i didnt know there was 7 bands on the night, so my appologies to them and the first three. I've heard some mixed responses about those bands, but i'll leave that part of the review to those that saw em. Thats all for now. Peace, out. PS my score is as high as it is because the atmosphere there was class. Except for the twit that rugby tackled my knee cap. Ned!
