Review by Gav REvolt

Well thankfully i was able to get down to this show, has to be one of my favourite gigs in the last six months for a few important reasons.

Firstly the venue was rather strange, having never been there before i was taken aback to find a gigging area smaller than that of Drouthie Neebors. However, the 13th Note still has a decent PA system so it is by far a superior venue.

Secondly, i was very happy to be able to get to see Set In Silence, one of their guitarists took ill on arriving in Scotland and they were unable to do the show in Dundee. Third and final one is because of getting to go to a gig outside of Dundee, which is always a good thing.

Arriving a wee bit late we catch the last three songs of Broken Oath who are getting better each time I see them, the last being in July last year at 666 Hours of Hate. Anyone with a liking for their metal or hardcore with some tasty beatdowns and a wonderful proportion of melody should definately check this band out.
Broken Oath website

Set In Silence were the absolute mutts nuts tonight. With new guitarist Rich firmly in place, they've bolstered their already strong set with two storming songs that prove to be their most varied and possibly strongest material yet. Andy as ever is a complete livewire going all over the cramped space available to him down the front, whilst later on Arron makes his way forward with his bass and nearly takes off my head. With some luck Dan has managed to get some makeshift replacement leads for his amp head meaning we get the full strength performance including some atmospheric samples.
Set In Silence Website

They'll be back up soon enough.

Now to Churn who have once again punished my ears making me re-think my need for earplugs. I'd suggest they are Scotlands most brutal band (alongside Zillah) for the sheer punishing harshness their music contains, whether its from drums, guitar or vocals, you're basically getting beat around the head by them for half an hour. Their new album should prove interesting going by the new one(s) aired.
Churn Website

Madman of course never fail to disappoint. We're treated to All That Remains, 2839, the new one they played in dundee, Visualise & Attack, First Nail in the Coffin, the medley of two songs from Blueprint for Nihilism, but sadly no Eye of The Tiger, Dundee should feel privelidged. And a couple of others.

On the whole it looks like the tour has been a great success with great attendances in all venues so far. Hopefully Aberdeen will be the same tonight.
