eye - 3 track release.

eye - 3 track release.

I've watched eye develop their sound over the last couple years now, and really, truly grow from strength to strength. Their ever evolving live show mirrors their ever evolving music. Having gone through line up and instrument changes, they are now tighter than ever and sound a lot more focussed. Guitar based alternative rock some would say, but let's delve a bit deeper.

This title-less release consists of 3 tracks - 'don't open the box', 'the one between one and three' and 'two bear, minnesota'.

The songs pulverise with ever growing repetitions and melody. Building and building to what seems like a point of no return before they switch direction and take you on a whole new ride. The music is melodic, pulsating and atmospheric, and for lack of a better word - "eerie". Think soundtracks to your favourite horror films. Think subtle and deft and you're halfway there.

It's impossible to really, accurately describe eye, not that they go beyond definition, but they spread themselves so widely across genres and styles. Not to overcomplicate things but eye are times heavy and unrelenting, at others soft and welcoming, but always relaxed and flowing. Occasional distorted guitars add to the weight of the sound, and never overpower or detract from the rythm or feel of the song. Soft, tribalesque drums never falter and drive the songs along with a controlled energy and competent stickwork. Time signatures are occasionally messed with and only helps to diversify the eye sound further.

This is the first recording I have heard of eye, seeing as the IUMA site is running slow right now I can't compare it to past releases but the recording quality here is excellent along with the technical ability of the band.

The songs on this cd posess an almost euphoric quality and prove to dominate your attention when performed live. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't yet heard eye to check out the live show. Never failing to draw a crowd, the show is climactic, relentless and thouroughly enjoyable to watch.

the live stuff on iuma doesn't sound amazingly well recorded as it was just taken straight from the mixing desk. not really comparable to where they're at now, other than length and girth.

Yes lefthandism does rule. Since both my sister and girlfriend are left handers, and eye are 75% lefty. I can no longer call it 'freaky disease of the lilmbic system' Or 'digitally reversed wierdness.

I wish i was left handed. I'd look like I wore my watch on the correct arm then.

listening to the drums whist mixing often sounded like a centipede with buckets on this feet, falling down the stairs.
