The problem with hip hop nowadays is the majority of what comes out on the shelf isn't relevant... at all. Neblina records sent me something that counters this. A few years back the Source mag ran an article about the rise of the independants... we've all been waiting but i have a feelings its not gonna be long now.
The Fear and Loathing Mix CD brings a selected fusion of different styles and emcee's prolific in their own right backed up with the individual tallents of over 6 producers.
D-Flow & A-Bless bring a no-nonsense flow on Ridin' & Rollin' and O.N.E had me bobbin my head on the bus to work this morning with his Many Men track, attitude helped by the James Brown sound clip. Just when i'm feelin i can take on the world, Skinny Kenny comes along and puts the chill on me. Featuring Rashid Hadee, Do The Math puts it all into perspective 'one love one life, i'll let you do the math'. Best track for me though is Hear Me Knockin' by DMP. Its obscure uptempo beat and DMP's individual voice make this one a stand out track.
Shelly B holds it down for the female emcees with her Hot Shells track produced by DJ Resident. Throwing punchlines in all directions, this is one lady you dont wanna meet in a dark alley.
There really is so much variety on this CD i'd be writin an essay if i went through every track; as a 24 track playlist suggests, there is something for everyone on here. Bragadaccio is kept to a minimum, and when its is used, its used for a purpose and its backed up with tight lyricism and equally proficient beat making. If you're tired of over rated emcees constantly bragging about how much money they got, look here. If your repping the UK independant scene and want to see what the Americans are up to, then look here.
