Seemingly ever reliable, this new Cepahlic Carnage release is exactly what you'd expect, brutal death metal with sludge moments and a mass of grind velocity interspersed with the shuffling out of helter-skelter riffs.
'The Will of the Way' has a distinct Napalm Death feel even in the vocals, following this 'Piecemaker' is a fine rocking portion of heavy sludge. Track 7, 'Dying Will Be the Death of Me' is the odd one out on this record, it reeks of MTV hit single, well as close to it a metal band can get. The riff rips off a million metalcore bands and then there's a big melodic chorus, its saving grace is that it remains distinctly Cephalic Carnage.
There's something on this record for all metal fans, well at least those with an open mind. The inclusion of a fairly commercial number could be taken quite cynically in that Relapse may be pushing their artists towards commercial success, but thankfully its not as obvious as they made it with Mastodon's 'Leviathan'.
