This is the second album that Neblina Records have sent me in the space of a month or so. The first was excellently produced and brilliantly executed. The second creates the trend... and a great trend it is.
The CD features a variety of tracks produced by two technically proficient producers and very competent emcees. The beats vary from the irregular instrumental (Incredible Shit) to the psychadelic (Vacation) to supreme chill (How We Sposed to Grow). Sometimes i feel like i'm repeating myself and no matter how much i want to pull out a fault, i cant... and that annoys me.
I'll start off with my favourite track, How We Sposed To Grow. On the whole CD this is the track i've listened to the most. I've been going through a pretty rough patch just now and this helped out a fair bit...
'and hip hop, that should be the new drug for distribution,
cos crack and cocaine dont do shit but spark confusion'
Young Valentine produces and tells his story on this track, delivering powerful words with a calming beat.
My second favourite track was Burnin', produced once again by Young Valentine and featuring both Chapter 13 emcees. The story telling is vivid, putting you in the track as if you were the subject. Again the beat is calm but features some background sampled female exclamations just to emphasise the urgency of the lyrics.
'we ride at night, my hands are twitching, plus i'm paranoid,
knowing that when i kill that n**** with that plastic toy,
i feel no remorse, my soul is tranquilised'
'i'm pacin back and forth in my mind, but i'm standing still,
the blunt comes back around, i hit it and blow the smoke up out my grill,
de ja vous of family bbq's and picnics, i miss it...'
Actually i'm kinda juggling the two tracks and i reckon both are equally excellent... something that i'm sure most people will find themselves doing with other tracks on the CD. The variety is awsome and something you come to expect from a good quality compilation CD
Track 3, The Rebirth introduces Chapter 13 to the listener. A track produced by, yup you guessed it, Young Valentine, sets the stage for this magnificent duo.
Vacation, the 4th track comes on sounding like something you'd hear in a theater. Pianos, violins and soft percussion combine to form a quick beat matched by on point lyrics. Its definately a fun, light hearted track.
'round two it was all about me, not too much about we,
this girl had an attitude fo sure i could take after,
plan a date faster, push them v8's faster, cos shorty was raw
with them whips like a slave master...'
There really is too much variety to cover in this review, we'll be here for ages.
