Granite Emcees - The Promo
Granite Emcees are Ekizel, Chino, Independant with Sp and Fric doing the production on this. All hail from Aberdeen, North Scotland. In their first release as a kru, the Granite Emcees kick down the door on the Scottish and U.K. hip hop scene. Fric, Kamoto, Ekizel and Deckz put together some original beats while the Granite Emcees as a whole drop the flows. Usually when i get a demo to review i always guade its impact on one thing, is it of a quality that i'd listen to it of my own free will and slap that sucker in my car system? Usually the answer is no, the review gets done and the disc becomes another mug rest, this time however its different. Its a good advert for Scottish hip hop and a solid footing in the UK game.
This release goes from one extreme to the other, the hard hitting constant flows in 'Can I (Writing Rhymes)' to relaxed beats of 'Speech is my Hammer' that emphasise the story within. Each member of the Granite Emcees brings his own individual style to the game and not to mention the fact that they keep their accents, loosing it is just unacceptable in my eyes but they definately stay true. These guys show respect for the art form and for their backgrounds, and thats important and always a good sign of what to expect in the future.
The full EP drops in January officially so look out for a full review when i get my dirty hands on that.
