Gorillaz - Demon Days
Gorillaz - Demon Days
I got this album on an urge, mainly because i'd like a few of their previous songs but not enough to actually buy a full album worth. It was kind of the same this time too, i'd heard some of their singles from the album and quite liked them but the difference was i didnt know it was them, you know, i just came across it on the radio and listened but never managed to find out who it was that was getting air time. When i found out i got the CD.
The album is a pretty varied mix of the bizarre and also the acceptable. Its got songs on it that make me mad (White Light) but its got songs on it that make me happy (Feel Good inc & DARE). The great thing about CDs is you can skip the shit tracks. Why am i telling you that? you know anyways!!!!
Whatever, its a 15 track CD, but there are about 4 or 5 tracks that i go back to listen to while ignoring / skipping the rest. Feel Good Inc, DARE, Last Living Souls and All Alone are easily my favourite tracks, while the rest are just plain strange... thats good or bad depending on how strange you are too.
I'm probably coming across as being a little bit harsh but i'm not, i actually like the CD because of its abundance of strange qualities and its addictive track thrown in here and there. I can see why they chose the tracks they did to release as singles, as the majority of tracks on here are an acquired taste... and that is the whole beauty of it. You dont get tired, you actually end up wanting to listen to those annoying tracks again to see how they live up to the rest of the album and eventually they do grow on you. You start picking things out that you missed the previous 5 plays and then you notice yourself skipping fewer and fewer tracks.
But be warned, you do need the patience to see this through, some will fail others will emerge victorious. This is the first Gorillaz material i've owned and its a good start for me at least. That may change though because in this release Dan The Automator has left the outfit and doesn't feature anywhere, so it'd be interesting to listen to their debut release to see what sort of impact this really has had on the Gorillaz project.
