Angry Beastie Boys - Solid Gold Hits

I've never really been a Beastie Boys fan, but i've never not liked them either. I have their last full album of original material, To the 5 Boroughs, and thats it and i saw this greatest hits collection as a good opportunity to catch up on what i might have been missing.

I've come away feeling a bit short changed though, to start with the paltry packaging of the CD leaves alot to be desired and really the CD should be priced at about 50% of what it costs on the shelf. Its a cardboard sleave with no inlay card, no nothing.

Anyway, to the CD which is the most important part anyway . The CD features none of their punk inspired experimental music and focuses entirely on their hip hop days. It should be noted that its not a definitive collection of the Beastie Boys, it really doesnt give the full picture and if it is the later you are looking for then i cant help but feel you'll be disappointed. There is so much about that band that isnt documented by this CD, and as its a single CD its really not possible to fit all their best and most popular tracks onto one disc.

I dont have a problem with the tracks on the CD, far from it, i just feel a bit short changed. Its a great introduction to the band if you are a newbie, but its not a necessary purchase if you are a fan of the group.

The Sounds of Science is definately a more complete collection. I did think about it but at the time it completely escaped my mind. Its got all the tracks on Solid Gold Hits except for one

Now i feel worse.

in the B-Boys defence, they do plow alot of stoosh into good causes. yet that doesnt make up for a crappy hits collection.

id understand if they left out the early punk/hardcore stuff. i mean, was it serious? the first rap album wasnt! "some old bullshit" always seems to me like a rag-tag collection of stuff that was just lying about. i enjoyed it, but i always felt it was a piss take.
