Dead In A Ditch – Live To Fight Another Day – Demo 2006.
Dead In A Ditch is a two-piece, studio based punk-rock band with hardcore and metal influences. They are based in Central Scotland. A variety of other commitments and line up problems have resulting in them not touring for a while although some folk on UGS may remember that they played a lot a couple of years ago.
Billed as a demo, but to be fair this is a solid first album (albeit it home recorded). There’s 12 tracks and it flows together well as an album even though some of the songs are older than others. Starting off in rousing style with “Weapons Of Mass Destruction” (a stinging indictment on the war in Iraq), DIAD balance fiery political rants, with more personal songs (“Another Day”) in fine style. Interestingly, they seem to have evolved beyond the Misfits horror punk style they started with to develop a sound of their own. There’s still the odd nod to their influences (at a guess Stiff Little Fingers, Misfits and on “I Don’t Think That Much Of You”, The Newtown Grunts!). The stand out tracks for me are the storming “Choices” (been knocking about for a while but never sounding this powerful or immediate, it’ll stick in your head, guaranteed). “The Truth” (a powerful dig at journalistic integrity) and the more light-hearted “I Don’t think That Much Of You” (a marvellous rant at the idiots we all have to deal with on a daily basis). Overall, this a superb debut album. It may have been a home recording but it’s got better production than some studio recordings I’ve heard.
