Battleheart 6 track EP - Battleheart

Christopher Bowes - Keyboards, Vocals
Gavin Harper - Lead Guitar
James Foote - Rhythm Guitar
Dani Evans - Bass Guitar
Doug Swierczek - Drums

The Glorious Battle

This track had me sitting at my desk with images of guns firing, pirates dying and falling off the sides of ships, sails being torn and hulls being breached. All in slow motion. I don't know if pirates had drummers on board but if they did i'd imagine they'd be the last men standing.

Heavy Metal Pirates

AWsome track. Class lyrics. I think there is an accordian in there two. If there is it surely has to be played by a 4 ft midget with a glass eye.

'Taste the broadside from our cannons of steel,
before our cutlases of metal you shall kneel!'

The guitar solo is awsome. It reminds me of old school Mega Drive beat-em-ups and strangely enough the solo on Michael Jackson's Beat It albeit

Over the Seas

'Many moons ago, in a faraway land
We met an old man with a hook for a hand
He showed us a map that lead to treasures untold
He said, "I'll give ye the map, if ye give me some gold" '

A fast paced track. The imagery these songs trigger is amazing. The lyrics along the with 'over the seas and far away' image the music counjoures results in classic piratey-metal goodness.

No Quarter

Another entirely instrumental track. It's good. The music is seamless and everything fits well. They're style comes across clear as day.

Nancy The Tavern Wench

The thing about the tracks is that they play one after the other at the same time delivering a story. After setting sail and robbing you of your treasure (Glorious Battle and Heavy Metal Pirate), sailing away victoriously (Over the Seas and No Quarter) they finally get to the Tavern to celebrate at Nancy's with some beer and wenches, oh yes! Picture the bar scene in Pirates of the Carribean and somewhere in the back you'll probably see these guys.

Journey Man

I swear I can hear a Pirate fiddler and a 4ft midget with a glass eye playing the accordian again. This is a fun wee track about a man without a home who seems to be forever on a journey, to where? Who knows.

These guys have pulled this off marvelously. With humour filled lyrics, excellent instrumentals, battle ravaged vocals and the potential to deliver many great things.

Official site

The EP is also available to download freely from their website so definately check that out, it's a good look.

I thought the vocals on this ep were terrible. apparently they're much better live. not saying that i could have done a better job or anything, just saying that the music is fucking amazing but the vox let it down slightly

Everyone should note that all instruments on the demo are played by Chris and Gavin, the line up listed above is for live purposes only....

I dont want to be taking any of Gavin's credit!!!

i think the roughness of the vocals on the ep adds to the overall effect. How many pirates do you know sing in tune?

I never noticed you said you thought Heavy metal pirates had a Mega drive game sound to it, i was thinking the same thing!
