Juliet Kilo - Carnival

Juliet Kilo

3 Track Demo

Juliet Kilo are an 'ambient rock' band formed in 2004. Their latest release 'Carnival' is the result of a lot of hard work and it really does look like it's paid off for the guys. The three tracks come together to form a nice little package. Each one varied and slightly different from the other with different tempos. The vocals stay fairly consistent through the tracks and I can't help but feel a little variety would be a good thing. Out of the three tracks the first is my favourite; Imploding. It's a nice relaxed piece of melodic rock with lovely vocals, everything seems to fit so well together in this one track it sort of sets a precedent for the rest that follow.

Let's Just Hope picks up the pace, it's a quicker moving track with quick and slow sections, but this and the last track Bridges, are not really enough to set these guys apart for the many other bands doing the same thing and I think that is the key if they are wanting to set themselves out from the rest of the pack.

What they are doing is fine, they are doing it well and no doubt enjoying it at the same time. I wouldn't go as far as to call them generic, that'd be an injustice because they do have some good material here, it's just not enough to make it stick.

The three track demo is available to listen to all on their website, along with the lyrics at www.julietkilo.co.uk. I definately suggest you check them out for yourselves.

Tracklisting

Imploding
Let's Just Hope

Juliet Kilo are fast becoming one of Dundee's best in my opinion. Really looking forward to hearing what they come up with in the coming months!

This is, quite possibly, the worst review ever.

How come? It reflects the material quite accurately I though... From the review I understood KJ to be of the opinion that the music is good but not quite as good as it could or should be. Which is fair enough seeing as it's only their 2nd recording (I believe).

I would buy a copy like.

Only our first

But to be honest, I think this review's fair enough (from my perspective anyway). It's older material that we're not really playing live anymore, so I'd like to think (erk) that our newer stuff has come on a bit since this. I was expecting much, much poorer reviews than this, and I think the others are in agreement.

But yeah, thanks for reviewing it in the first place!

I wasn't under the impression that I indicated that I could write a better review? I merely condemned it for what it was. I don't agree with anything KJ said. Juliet Kilo may have better material now, but, this record is still deserving of acknowledgment. It's a really good record. He also stated that they didn't have what it takes to separate them from "the rest of the pack" yet, as far as I can tell, they have a very sui generis sound. Y'know, maybe I should just rephrase what I initially said so it will suit you all;

"Nice review KJ, it's a shame your opinion is shite though".

It was acknowledged, in the review above this post. I'd agree with the sentiment expressed in the review, and I like the record. He stated that nothing on that record (apart from a third of it) has anything to seperate them from a pack of other good bands, that's hardly damning and unfair criticism. I too hope and expect the next stuff to be better.

Still, I rate this 0/10 for the band allowing me to pay a quarter of its cost for the dubious pleasure of their company/root noting my way through it, before unceremoniously tossing me like a broken rubber after a shag in the woods.

To be honest you should be embarassed a hip hop head puts more work into reviewing something outside his realm when all you can do is talk shit.

The whole point in this review is my opinion on the record, not what your opinion should be. Perhaps you should learn to grasp the concept of a review before you criticise it.

edit: i sooooo wanted to post a link to Cunny's Head Cleaner review, possibly the most infamous review in UGS history.

Ta for that KJ, i think it's fair, the songs were recorded to document where we were starting from. I think they sound okay, but nothing special, the review pretty much sums that up.

No problem mate. I'll be honest, I enjoy listening to new music and it was good to hear your band, even more so because I've not actually been to see you play live.
