Mesa Verde - Amor Fati cdEP
5 songs on "amor fati" from the UK's Mesa Verde. I didn't really know what to expect, but I like what I hear. A very explosive mix of frantic and fast, beautiful guitar riffs that clash with cleaner, calm parts. The vocals are screamed, but saying that Mesa Verde plays screamo doesn't feel right. Too much shit inside that genre. The people in Mesa Verde absolutely know how to play their instruments. If you know that and the fact that they're from the UK, you know their muisc is far from typical. The vivid drums are the glue that holds everything together and the guitar riffs are ace and mathy. The chilling riffs of both guitar players are an awesome mix that blends together as if the players were twins and have been playing together for years. The song "MRB" and "clarity with distance" start both off with some very calm emo parts. That doesn't last long though. It's just the introduction for the cherry on the "screamo" pie. The CD booklet says there are only four songs, but my computer says five. And the fifth song is an 12 minute long epic song filled with calm instrumental goodness until half way through when Mesa Verde plays again what they play best. At times they make me think about La Quiete here. The band's last tour included a bunch of shows with Amanda Woodward. I think that makes an excellent combo.
