Brutal Truth - Sounds Of The Animal Kingdom

This album is just fantastic.

Its a whole lot more varied than previous Brutal Truth efforts, and it pulls it off amazingly.

First song "Dementia" starts off with a sample saying "Still not hard enough, still not fast enough!" which is about right! This is just fast paced, smack in the face grind, but with strange and twisted breakdows.

"KAP" follows on from that in similarly good fashion.

4th track "Fucktoy" is more mid paced death metal, but twists into a horrible(or good for some folk) wall of noise.

The next song "Jemenez Cricket" is actually ridiculousy catchy, and for the first time in this album shows some rather nice musicianship rather than all out grind. Bass sounds stunning.

"Blue World" begins with some rather disturbing industrial noise, with samples, before getting into another non-grind epic. still remaining exceedingly heavy of course.

"Dead Smart" is probably my favourite song of this album, has everything from chunks of old punk to even a bit of almost cheese metal, all intertwined perfectly into an absolute monster of a song.

"Sympathy Kiss" starts with a groove, but again ends up getting crazy, at one point almost venturing into a black-metal esq section.

"Promise" is a straight forward death metal/grind combo that puts most Napalm Death to shame.

"Postulate Then Liberate" starts like an epileptic in a rave. When I first listened to this, it came to the breakdown and it seemed like almost perfect grind.

The album finisher, "Machine Parts", is very basic but works really well and although the single instrument tracks are quite bland, it all goes together really well in the song and the vocals sound cancerous.

all the songs are great, they are just the ones i picked out specifically off the top of my head.

The vocals are really good, i miss the large amount of high screams that was on previous albums, but his voice in general sounds a lot nastier in my opinion. A bit like Captain Beefheart if he smoked 3 times as many fags!
Drums are the standard brutal truth affair, but they sound a lot more "precise" and not as if he's struggling. The production is good and bad. Personally i like it, the rawness is great, and the massivley distorted bass is fantastic. Sometimes when it gets really hectic you just cant hear whats going on however.

This is one of my favourite grind albums, second only to "Symphonies of Sickness."

the only reason i waited to long to get this album was i had a feeling it wouldnt be anywhere near as good as there previous two, but it just seems like this is where everything came together. Brilliant.

Any fan of grind, or death metal (providing they dont mind the moments of complete insanity and noise!) will enjoy this.
