Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace
(RCA)

Dave Grohl must be a pretty contented chap these days. Regarded as one of the greatest rock drummers of all time, a member of probably the most iconic band of the 1990's, and since then proved himself capable of being a first class frontman and a quality songwriter into the bargain.

After seven studio albums alot of bands show signs of slowing down, perhaps they can't be bothered any more or they lose the knack for writing the sort of songs that made them popular in the first place (see The Donnas).

Iron & Wine's new album is something of a surprise. The back catalogue of main man Sam Beam shows a fondness for stripped down melancholic folk songs, sticking to the format and rarely wavering from it.
