on the way home from work tonight i was listening to radio one's session, i think it was, and they had a guy who runs ones of Scandanivias biggest event security firms and he was advising the people behind Leeds and Reading to ban crowdsurfing based on the injuries it causes to people when someone lands on them from out of nowhere.
I personally dont have anything against crowd surfing, as long as it is done for the right reason; i.e. people wanting to escape a crush or people feeling unwell and wanting to get out of a section of the crowd in a hurry. I dont however agree with it as a fun thing to do, especially since i have suffered neck injuries myself after people landing on my neck and straining it. How do you lot feel? should it be outlawed? would people take on board the warnings? should it be allowed and is it part of the whole performance. gimme gimme.

I think it should be banned!! I also think it should be encouraged to kick the fuck out of crowd surfers at any given point!!! Mainly 'cause it hurts when some arsehole lands on your head!!! but also the dickheads cause the facist bastards!! (security) to block the view of us PAYING FANS!!! at the front! Kill crowd surfers and kill security arseholes!!!

well i think crowd surfing sucks, yeah i agree that if someone like *REALLY* needs to get outta the crowd then its okay to do it but any other time i dont think its right. Many a time i've been kicked/punched/ whatever by surfers and me being not so big myself have even been squished to the floor when they've landed on me, i've even missed part of a really ace gig cos some stoopid crowd surfer kicked me in the face with stoopid biker boots and made my nose bleed which wasnt nice or fun. Well basically what im saying is that crowd surfing shouldn't be allowed, it maybe fun for the person surfing but it sure aint for the ppl underneath them who get hurt in the process, they wanna enjoy the gig too.
there ya go thats my view on it all ![]() |

Well I luv crowdsurfing... its part of the whole experience at any decent punk gig. I've had my neck cracked a couple o times by other surfers landin on my head, but i've been hurt more by crushing, falling & general whacks in the face in ur average mosh-pit. Any time I've been near the front, its easy to tell when sum1 is about 2 land on ur head, cos the security gaurds get ready 2 grab the 'offender'
Simply stick ur hands in the air and that should save u from gettin a broken neck. I can see ur point in it being annoying, especially when theyre wearing loads of chains & studs, or if they're big fat bastards. I don't wear chains n shit, and I weigh about the same as a packet of quavers... but feel free to punch me on the way past if u want. ![]() |

dude, i dont think i can make it. The car has a balder, so i'd getfucked up the ass if i got pulled over. So i'll have to look for alternative modes of transport and if that fails, i'll have to hook up by satelite and watch the gig that way <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

My view is crowd surfing is ok so long as there's a bit of sense involved, i.e. don't surf and atempt to swim with arms and legs flapping around kicking and hitting people, and no wearing of chains studs and the like. Oh and no farting on people either last thing I want is some fat arse dispensing nauxcious gasses on me. If all these rules are followed people shouldn't get hurt. As for Andy's view on security it's a little outdated, you sound like a throwback to the 60's when any form of control was fascism. Security tend to do a good job and are also trained in first aid, trained to spot the effects/symtoms of dehidration, asthma and the like. Remember Donnington 1988? security spotted a problem and stopped the gig (very brave telling Axel Rose to stop) which prevented a few more deaths Crowds are gettin people and we need someone in charge. My overall point is this.... Be sensible when at gigs (there are other people there who just want to watch, listen and learn )but always make sure you come to see Tear Jerk, 'cause we're fucking ace!!!!!!!!

i also think crowd surfing is ok, but only in clubs and small venues and shit. when you get 40 kids crowdsurfing at once at a sellout offspring gig then thats when it gets dangerous.. they dont really know what there doin and most of them are crowd surfin for the first time. so it should be banned at stupid big gigs, but not at small club gigs, folk are older and wiser and know what there doin!
im too small to crowd surf, and i dont like messing up my hair hee haw |
