are there not already tons of zines flying about? we need something different, how about a tv add on channel 6, although preferably no where near as shit as ozzys ones. They are complete gash. Some thing along the lines of displaying the word 'CUNT' in bold that takes up the whole screen with backing vocal of some local bum shouting said word at the top of their flem filled throaty voices. Then afterwards in some kind of sesame street commentary, a very sped up american bloke saying "The word CUNT is brought to you in association undergroundscene.co.uk" THE END.

I think its a winner how about it?

Channel 6 is in recievership. It doesnt even have a standby screen thing anymore. So your plan sucked. We could do a press release and try and get an interview on Radio Tay or something. lol.

i still think the fanzine idea would be a winner. There may be a few around already, but with so many potential contributors, its bound to be a good one, plus if you look at everyone who would be contributing (any one and everyone) we all have different skills and varying musical interests so i think it would appeal to the masses. We'd prolly be able to sell it for a pound or something at gigs and Grouchos and other places. Plus it would be a good alternative to those who dont have access to the site and thus the site on line. Whaddayathink?

it would have to be stupid as fuck though, like the old fitba ones were, loadsa stupid jokes n stories n shit, basically the same as the forum i spoze.

and of couse we would have to slag off the opposition. its the law that all fanzines are bound to.

channel6 in receivership???? Wow that lasted long!!! they were like 1 year old (bad omen kj). not surprising really, it was shit and was everything that advertised on it. espiecally saz.

Awright.

I would be totally happy to help out with any sort of fanzine business, be it punting it to folk or whatever.

I find that a good way of raising profile for shows and shit i just to take a few hours and a couple of hundred little flyers and walk around. We usualy just make our own, simple like, just drawing 4 flyers on an A4 sheet and photocopying it. It can be cheaply done, especially if you are at uni. Just fire up 100 copies and you have 400 flyers. Take em to the pub, down the street, just kee them on you and give them o folk who might be interested.

Some people may think that it sucks, but Kerrang has a massive readership, and they do gig listings for free. If somebody emailed them the details, they'd throw it in the mag and on the website. Loadsa folk would see it.

The Radio Tay idea isn't that daft, just call em up and they'll stick it on the entertainment guide. I know this because I've gotta listen to that fucking station all day at work, but again, loadsa people hear it, and there will always be somebody that is interested.

Don't forget Stirling as part of this East Coast Scene!! We are the band from nowhere but that is our base!!

There may be some very exciting Stirling gig news soon, and that is an open invitation for all bands. Just gimme a few weeks.

If there is anything I can do........

printing zines is pretty expensive, the last issue of enzk was something like £400 for 500 copies hence the demise of the printed version.
doing it on a photocopier would be a hellish task, folding and collating is seriously soul destroying.
a newsletter would be a better idea, just a couple of sides summing up local goings on and a couple of spotlight articles on different bands, promoters, zines, venues, whatever each time.
on the aspect of the long running dundee apathy, there's not much you can do about it, about 9-10 year ago i found that making the gigs free got people out (anyone remember the gigs in monroe's or am i the oldest fucker here?) whereas about 2 year ago even free gigs were abysmal turnouts on the whole. having people travel from out of town is brilliant and what you want.
cliquieness is a problem also, people will only go out if their mate's band is playing but for nothing else which gets infuriating unless you have the same bands play time and again. any cure for it? feck knows...
by the way i'll be dropping some copies of Reason to Believe zine into grouchos on saturday, it's big and free and full of DIY punk stuff so pick it up. (you might have seen it in kerrang in the uxfest write-up)
also As Friends Rust are playing on sept 4th at the westie(i think) which should be amazing if folk turn up so please do.
lastly do grouchos sell demos? condition21 cd is all done and looking lovely wondered if they'd take some, anyone know?
