Question MP3 or MiniDisc Players?

I've needed a new personal stereo, so it was between mp3 or minidisc. I personally took the minidisc and dont have any regrets. But what about you guys? Are minidiscs too fiddly? Are mp3 players too expensive considering the amount of music you can store? hmmm, tough one this.

No point in an MP3 player. If you get one of them, you are more than likely to have a PC. Just donwload MP3s and press record on your minidisc when it is plugged into the PC line out. Hey presto...songs on your minidisc that you got from the net. Plus, Minidiscs are more versatile than MP3 players. You can buy loads of discs and there is no danger of losing all your back-ups when your PC inevitably throws a wobbly.

i'd take an mp3 player. my girlfriend had one til my car got stolen in leeds, was really decent, excellent sound quality, no skipping like my minidisc player, which is also slow at starting up cumbersome to record to. the slow starting up to play thing only started after many months intensive usage, the fact that theres moving parts involved means something is more likely to break than in an mp3 player.

new versions of the model she had come as standard with 128mb memory, to which you can stick an extra 128mb smart media card. basic unit is £160. for £200 you get a model that will connect to other audio equipment eg mixing desk. so that you can record straight to mp3 format, oh how i want one of them.

with mp3 theres nothing extra to buy, memory is reusable. as everything is stored on your computer you dont need to worry about deleting something cos you still have another copy at home. naming tracks is a pain in the arse on minidisc, mp3 has it already done for you.

if you use a computer so much i reckon that an mp3 player would have been the obvious choice to be honest. though only if you keep most of the songs ripped on the hard disk. then again, it does take the full recording time of the disc + plus adding in names + changing of cd '(if a compilation). with mp3 its done in under 3 minutes.

mp3 rules

Yeah...good point. I actually now have no idea what one would be best! I guess I just couldn't be arsed downloading things anyway! I tend to just copy my mates CDs. MP3s are good for getting rare/weird things though!

i would suggest mp3. i have a player and its fairlt simple no one usually wants whole albums copied so mini disc can be a bit fiddly although cd quality is still unbeatable. But mp3 players with an onboard graphic equalizer then your set bare in mind u need at least 128mb card and a card reader.
