ok,this is coming from someone who has been properly into punk for the last 3/4 years. before i had an idea bout alternative music, but still wasn't 100% percent sure bout my taste in music. My main taste is good fast melodic punk (slick shoes, nofx, rufio, yellowcard, etc)and ska punk(reel big fish, spunge, less than jake, link80,etc) i also like other punk (ie old skool shit like the pistols) and other musical genres. In other other words there's isn't a musical catagory that i don't like (apart from fuckin shit euro-pop like the fuckin cheeky fuckin girls fuckin pish fuckin both should be fuckin shot!!) calm.........ok, now onto my actual point!
from what i gather nirvana were good at what they did: writing good heavy meaninful songs that some people could relate to. They were big, yes! but we need to ask if they would still be big, or even as big if Kurt hadn't topped himself? also would we have been blessed with the genius that is the Foo Fighters if nirvana were still going? im no totally sure bout Hole. not heard much of their stuff or know much about their background, so what im about to say maybe wrong but forgive my ignorance........i only heard of them cause i knew Love was kurts g/f otherwise i would have heard of them which i guess is the same story for most peeps! nirvana, like other band such as the pistols, greenday, etc (i say etc cause i can't think of others off the top of my head) made way for alternative music to enter into the charts. Still weather this was a good thing some still argue against, but each to his own. Nirvana : Good and influetial? = yes Nirvana : most important band in the wolrd? = doubtfull! also all this shit about their last song they recorded before Cobain died?? who gives a fuck apart from die-hard fans? im sure other big successgul bands had songs before one of their members died or dissapered but havne't bothered to hype it up to make more money! which is all some fat-tycoon is trying to do by hyping up a dead mans old song (which isn't really anythin spectacular) so he can cash in on a new generation of music fans who don't know the difference between manufacurted music and idependant stuff these days! reading back over what i have just read i've realised i haven't really made a point at all. just really havering on about my opinion of music and nirvana man, i do speak alot of pish!! feel free to rip what i've said and point out any contradictions i may have made! sorry if i have offended any nirvana or whole fans, it wasn't my intention! Transformers Fuckin Rock!!! |

Nah mate! Dont beat yourself up about it. You did make some valid points. You cant go around pretending to be an expert on every band going. That would be mental! Nirvana will always mean alot to me because that is the era i grew up in. Just the same way that the bands you mentioned mean alot to you. Christ, i cant begin to reel off some of the shit bands ive listened to up through the years. Sometimes its all about who you are, where you are and when you are. Nirvana were a great band for late 80's / early 90's Kilmarnock! Lots of girls with pigtails and stripey tights! Grrrrrrrrrrr!

couldnt agree more with ya magumba,That was the whole scene when i was 17,me and si ritalin used to dj in a club called tropics in arbroath around that time, and the scene was huge so thats probably why nirvana r a special band to me,Im not trying to be condecending but i reckon it might b a bit harder for someone who wasnt musically matured when nirvana broke to grasp what a big deal the whole "grunge" scene was then,But its probably the same for a lot of people with the punk thing from sorta 94/95 onwards, just ignore me im gettin all nostalgic,That time holds some very special memories for me,im gonna shut the fuck up now ,im a twat.ha ha

Very true, I'm too young to have been into Nirvana when they were around, and hence I'm not really into them that much, and I think I don't really understand the grunge thing, could someone explain it to me??
