He also played all the instruments on The Colour and The Shape (apart from the drum bits on Doll and the slow part of Up In Arms)

well its weird how i got foo's live video's jus before the 1st album came out, & if u look in the cover u will see the band. & like i said, i got foo fighters featureing kurt cobain.

dave grohl made a solo album called 'pocketwatch' under the name 'late' before he was in nirvana, he wrote most of the first foo fighters album in 93/94 and it was going to be a sideproject, he recorded a bunch of songs with chris novoselic on a break during a nirvana tour in 1993, one of which is marigold, which is the b-side to heart shaped box. he recorded the first foo fighters album after nirvana were over.

he did have a full band before the colour and the shape, he recorded the first album then went out to find a band... hence the picture of the band in the booklet for the first record. He didn't do all the instruments on the colour and the shape, only the drums because William Goldsmith left part way through recording. Taylor didn't appear until that tour was over.
