SD Forum Guidelines [updated 06/12/2004]

I would like to thank all who took part in the absolute trainwreck of a thread abour racism. I was offline all weekend or I would have locked it sooner.

Quick recap:

#1 flaming is not allowed

if you disagree with a poster at least show you have the intelligence to dispute someones point. This is especially true of moderators and admins who are not the best people to flame.

#2 racism and other intolerance

disagreeing with religion or a religion is different from attacking it. If you wish to start a theological debate do so, but abide by point 1. Same with race, sex, sexuality, age etc.

this is not hard.

Failure to abide by these basic rules about showing basic respect for other posters will result in you being reported again to KJ with a request for banning from this forum and/or the whole forum and also your post being edited to something "hilarious" like :"I am a fucking moron who cant follow basic rules for posting on a forum and I like to blow goats"

you have been warned: if you cannot show basic respect for other viewpoints yours will not be welcomed here.

UPDATE:

thankfully this forum is becoming extremely exciting what with BNP members signing up and only posting in BNP threads trying to disguise their racist message but just storring up crap. Don't worry, these rules apply to you too. Due to the unwanted attention to the forums they have brought there will be no threads on racism for the immediate future. Any will be locked on sight. Im sure we do not have to spell out the consequences of repeated flagrance of this rule.

UPDATE 2:

since we have had an influx from Stormfront it needs to be pointed out. Its not just BNP propaganadists here that are not welcome but of any party. Anyone on this site should use this forum for discussing politics/news. What is not welcome is someone only coming to post in politics promoting one particular ideology, especially groups of 6 of them at a time.

As KJ says is the main sticky thread, this is a MUSIC site. The politics forum is a sub-forum of it. The purpose of this site is to promote music and unsigned bands, not to give political parties free reign to spam the board with their own particular politics.

Again everyone is reminded to read the rules they agreed to when they registered on the site. These include:

The general posting rules for this site apply in this sub-forum as well, please remember that.

The title of the forum should in all cases give the game away as to acceptable content for posts within it.

i.e.
General Discussions contains general music discussion
gigs contains info about upcoming gigs

following this trend, Serious Discussion contains posts and threads on a more serious theme: politics, news, debates etc.

here are some example posts to help anyone new to this sub-forum

acceptable thread/post:
American politics are very interesting, just now there is an election, i think Bush will win for XYZ but he will face problems due to ABC.

unacceptable thread/post:
woah look at america its a land of stupid people lollerskates (800smilies)

acceptable thread run:
poster A - post
poster B - "I disagree due to ABC"
poster A - "hmm i didnt consider that but due to XYZ I stil think
poster C - I read something about this on http://etc
poster A + B then having 3 page discussion about a political/world event or system

unacceptable thread run:
poster A - post
poster B - "I disagree due to ABC"
poster A - "hmm i didnt consider that but due to XYZ I stil think
poster C - lol youre a mong
poster D - hey C Pm me
poster C - yeah np, did you watch that on TV last night
poster D - yeah hehe
poster A + B - "get back on topic asshats"

in this instance both poster C and D would be deleted and those who flamed them would be deleted too. If you see someone flaming/spamming or otherwise going off topic with inane drivel completely irrelevent to the topic at hand then either:
report the post as "bad post" in which case I;ll get emailed detailing it
PM me
PM anyone else who happens to be mod of this forum at the time (KJ)

in other words contribute to the forum and debate or go to bollocks.

If you post nothing but drivel then any posts you make will be read with a "harsh" hat on. This does not mean that the occasional humourous/parody post is not acceptable.
If you contribute to the threads regularly then the occasional parody/piss take post will be read with a "smiley" hat on.
If you contribute then start to post nothing but drivel this will change to the "harsh" hat again.

If you disagree with the forum rules or the sub-forum rules then you are free to not post or to post on some other forum, particularly one specialising in politics or current affairs.

Please remember at all times that this is a MUSIC site about MUSIC. Serious Discussion is a tiny forum with an absolutely small minority of posts. This forum, like all other non-music related sub-forums is here to file away all the "non-music" posts that people make. Its and all other sub-forums existance is dependant on it being and continuing to be a positive contributer to UGS as a whole.

If everyone notices the name of this forum has changed!

The Politics and Hot Topic forums have been merged into one super duper forum called "Serious Discussion"

This is part of a wide range of changes KJ is looking at to enhance and revitalise the site.

From now on this forum will not be solely about Politics but be about:
Politics
News - and comment on news
Debates - you disagree with poster X, well you two can have a nice formal debate about a subject, more details if theres interest.
any other serious topics

Any other non-serious topics can go to the Lounge or other relevent forums.
