Is music about music anymore?

I can't help noticing that no one cares about the music any one is making anymore! There's a thread about M*U*F*F's new EP and all anyone could talk about was what they meant by the title of the song fashion core! I don't really understand why if someone doesn't follow particular politics or like Morrissey they are considered uncool...I mean fair enough , i'm really not into pop and dance etc but i acknowledge that music is being created and thats an indespensable skill no matter how shite it turns out lol...what does everyone else think?

recently ive become a bit stale towards music which upsets me alot so ive been buying as much as i can to give myself a kick start again.
I agree though on average people don't care much about music anymore and the majority of people who do, are already set in their ways. Not everyone mind you but pretty much everyone i know doesn't care that much, which sometimes makes them boring to me and im sure has the opposite affect.

I've not found a new band that a like in the past year and a half or 2 years. Music is getting shit I think. All the music you on tv is about getting cd sales, and selling clothes. Local bands for the most part just bitch about each other and gig with the same bands all the time.
95% of new bands or unsigned bands seem to write the same songs with different lyrics.
It saddens me.

.
do you mean local bands? if you do id recommend going to see non zero or split the sky or come and see us cos i think we are all pretty unique to this area. thats not just for the sake of a plug either cos i genuinely think there are quite a few good bands around this area. after the rounds at emergenza i was well impressed with some of the talent around here and with the exception of two bands, who i won't name.
i do agree though that alot of bands gig with just the same people and that can be a bit frustrating for gig goers but thats just because there aren't enough bands who will make the effort with other bands to meet/introduce themselves. have you ever gigged with a band from glasgow? they actually come up to you and TALK!!! its freaky liek

I think a lot of the time it isn't about the music for many people. But that doesn't bother me. All you can do is remind yourself that if it sounds good then listen to it. Most people adhere to this rule of thumb, and it isn't a problem for most people on this board. Not as much as it is made out to be anyway.

theres not many new bands that have appeared in the last few years that i really like, i listen to old bands or bands that split up years ago

i found that the sound of punk music has gotten really stale and boring, and its no longer punk, its all this pop-punk shite thats going about. im getting more and more into extreme metal like the berzerker and decapitated and vader and cryptopsy. i'd advise everyone to try explore a new genre. i found a couple of bands that have brought a smile to my face like tracer amc, the mars volta, optims rhyme and mc frontalot (last two are rap and not really "bands")

just stretch your spectrum of music you listen too and dont read music papers/magazines and dont watch telly. they you wont hear all the hype and you'll be able to make your mind up about eveything by yourself without being influenced by external forces. music is all about music as far as im concerned, well the stuff i listen too is. i agree that too many bands are writin about politics when they dont real'y know the ins and outs and have just watched CNN and BBC news and read micheal moore too much. like "ah, we hate bush" but really it doesnt matter cos we're british and there are more problems in britain than dubya.
